Get yourself a classic bike Stuart - a Rudge or a Velocette should do nicely

I have been twice and they organise the event well, although traffic can be heavy it does move, I would plan to reach depending on your route either Midhurst or Petworth around 9 am and your router should be easy going all the way there.

Don't think that they would let you in with an electric starter - unless of course the bike was a Norton Electra or a Siba dynastart equipped Villiers.

Anyway, learning how to kick-start a big British single is one of life's rites of passage

It's a bit like the CLA Game Fair. Some people will queue for hours whilst other will say that they arrived at the same time and flew in! The queues also vary from year to year, as does the CLA fair, but Goodwood is in the same place every year (otherwise it wouldn't be the Goodwood festival of speed!) so I don't know why

have a bbq in the evening/afternoon and make it a late exit.

It all depends on the order of events, if its a popular event last then it will be awful. If they have a few support races afterwards it wont be so bad, spreads it out a bit.

Eitherway, you will be sitting in some traffic.

We have been several times and always on a Friday and always got there for 9am ish.We have never had problems getting in,by that I mean we weren't sat in stationary traffic for ages,it kept moving right into a parking slot. Getting out is a bit busier but you must expect that,it is in a busy part of Sussex. We reckon you see every thing on Friday that you will see any other day but with fewer people about. The cars and bikes are in action on the hill practising and every thing is open. Don't forget it is advance booking only.

Sorry Stuart, forget my advice about going on a classic bike - I was confusing the festival with the revival.

Go on a modern bike and miss the crowds

You will not be disappointed Stuart, there aren't many places you can get that close to racing machinery, particularly F1. We were there when Renault had the main display in front of the house and stood next to their F1 car when it played the British National Anthem on its exhaust note using a software programme the engineers had devised. Have a good time.

Well we went yesterday and had good day out, as Vic said plenty to see and do.
Having never been before I was stunned by the investment from the major manufacturers on standds and stuff in general, this is obviously considered to be a very serious event.
The traffic getting was a bit aticky but that was our fault for setting of earliy enough, getting wasn't so bad, we just went cross country abit and found a pub to sit outside for a while.
If you have never been, and even have just a passing interest in cars and bikes it is well worth a visit.

A few highlights.

Chrome Veyron if you like that sort of thing

Nice 'stang

Some old Ferrari tongueff.gif

Heh isn't that Peter Fonda?
