Snap Cap
A mate of mine has just landed a job in Mongolia working for BP. His job description is Crane Slinger, no idea what this is but it pays well, to the tune of £425 a day tax free. Needless to say I'm a bit envious. Its a rolling contract and he will pocket quite a few quid out of it. Still like to know what a crane slinger is and why it pays so well. Dempy
Is that not the bloke who attaches things to the cranes?? I cant imagine he throws them
Imperfection
Its a 'slinger banksman'-he's the one who attaches the chains/straps to items to be lifted.Dont sound much, but its a heck load of responsibility. Even in this country they get good money.

V8landy
Are you sure he did not say Swinger? I belive there is shortage of young men out there But seriously, most of my pipe fitters have been on a slingers course, nothing speical, I suspect more what he will be is a Banks-man / appointed person, i.e the person that directs the crane/liasing between the man on the ground to the crane opperator. Albertan_J
Doesn't sound hard but slingers are very skilled I've seen many chased off site who weren't up to the job. One mistake and someone's dead.
