Shell crow decoys????

Hi all - blew the cobwebs off all my pigeon deeks on sunday and went up the farm on the maize stubble - sadly it was brilliant sunshine and no wind at all so the pigeon shooting wasn't the best although I had a few in the bag. However there was a rake of crows about.

Now I don't have a 4 x 4 and have to carry enough stuff across the field so am wondering if there any shell crow deeks about? or even if shell deeks work for the clever crow? I have some old shell pigeon deeks and was thinking of givibng them a coat of blackboard paint - anybody tried this?

Your thoughts are welcomed

Regards

Graham

I've never seen shell crow decoys but I bought some full bodied ones off ebay a while back and they work well for me, but once you shoot a few crows add them to the decoy pattern and you'll get way more crows coming in.

I seen a post on a topic were somebody painted there pigeon shell decoys black and it worked for them but everyone has there own way I suppose.

Have you thought about sillosock crows?

I have a couple and to be honest I don't really think they look as good as the pigeon ones. I believe the newer ones are flocked though, so they might be better.

They will meet the requirement for light and reasonably portable though.

I know were to get crow shell and they are flocked

Are they just pigeon deeks that are flocked black? or styled on the good old crow?

I have some spare over sized shell deeks so have just painted one in a matt black - says non reflective but will have to see how it looks when it is dry. If it looks ok then I will paint half a dozen and set them up to the one side of my pigeon deeks.

Time will tell - crows seem a little more intelligent than the old woodie!!!!

Going to invest in a rotary as well - been putting it off for years but I suppose needs must. Have stuck an ad in the wanted but if any one has one localish that they want to shift then let me know

I have sprayed two half shell pigeon deeks mat black and painted the beaks black gloss, they bring them in, also use a crow call, but as some one said swap deeks for shot birds, nothing like the real thing.

personally i dont swap the deeks just keep adding the dead ones to them the bigger the pattern the better

Best thing is black school/work socks. you can get a pack of 10 for a couple of quid. Just pull them over your pigeon shells. newer the better though, I used some old one's from the bottom of the draw, put them on the shell and could see right through them! ... and no they wern't my mrs's tights.

Tried the trick with the socks and yes tights are too see through and white wing and neck flashes show through.

Took them out yesterday and crows seemed to come into the pattern quite happily. I think it helped that being shells the pattern still had lots of movement in it. (Unlike FUD decoys)
