broken hatsan escort magnum

Recommended Posts

well where shall i start.

I have had my escort magnum for 4 months now and put about 1000 carts through it. I stripped it down to clean and found

1/ magazine cut of spring missing

2/ Fore end horse shoe bracket fixing screw snapped off

3/ firing pin spring snapped in 3 bits

when it was working it cycled fine but not now.

It has been with Edgar Brothers now for 3 weeks not happy

so i called the shop that i brought it from and i am now waiting for a return call.

Has anyone else had dealing with Edgar Brothers how long do they take to fix/replace guns?

Had mine collected and returned in about a week, I'd unknowingly managed to loose part of a cleaning patch in behind the hammer and jammed the mech, this of course was before I found out how to strip it fully for cleaning :)

I dealt with Edgar Bros directly and they were very efficient, no charge for collection or return either. I'd give them a ring and ask what's happening.

As the RFD I bought it from is over 50miles away I emailed the contact on the Edgar Bros website and asked if I was supposed to take it there for repair, I got a reply the next day asking for details and then they asked if they could arrange its collection for the next day, even asked if I needed packaging sent for it. At the end of the day it was sorted with excellent service and saved me from doing two 100+ mile round trips :)

If I might be bold and suggest your problem lies with sending it back to them.....

In my nearly a year of knuckle scraping finger damaging ownership of a Hatstand (20g synth) I had several parts go tits up (not unexpected) rung the nice guys and asked them to send them to me - Normally there were there next day or at worse day after - Arm your self with the parts nomenclature and part numbers and ring them.

Edgars service when approached like that is pretty damn good. :good:

I must say i have a fac 9+1 Hatsan MPA and have put nearly 3000 cartridges includung light heavy and slugs through it and it hasn't missed a heart beat  I think its a great shotty and for the money you cant go wrong well mine hasn't :good:

Oh, Straightshooter, now you have really destroyed my mental image of you. A man who is passionate about wood and achieving very pleasing appearances on both shotgun and rifles "that owns a Hatsan of any description is a contradiction to my mental image. Having said that, I own one. I use it on a regular basis, I have marked three strategic white lines on it about a foot apart, it's never missed a beat for the purpose that I use it for - measuring where to put the barb wire on fencing posts. Regards Sage.

who'd have thought it, the words 'hatsan escort' and 'broken' in the same sentence

 Must agree with Paul, the amount of threads you see up here with people having problems with their rubbish Hatsan's. I don't often hear Beretta and broken in the same sentence; there is a reason for this :good:

Edgars are quite quick, they have had lots of practice. Yours might cause a problem as it only has 3 problems.

Mines bang on apart from the threading on the chokes, its rubbish. I have had to turn out one choke on a lathe after it was stuck in and now the 1/4 choke doesn't even screw fully in, but on the otherhand it is as relaible as the beretta I had and it is a 1/4 of the price so i have no heistation of knocking it about.

P.s. It has also been in a ditch, so had a nice amout of water in it and also I have got it so muddy, a hose pipe was needed :|

Aslong as you look after, good clean every so often and if any parts go then ring up and get some spares. I'd rather ring up for a spare part every year than have to fork out another £700/800 just so it could get knocked around.

well i got fed up with with waiting for the local gun shop to call edgar brothers and then to call me with a progress report so i took the box back to the shop to get a full refund. After 30 minutes of stating the fact that the gun was not fit for purpose i walked away with a full refund. The owner of the shop was not happy as he now has a second hand escort that now owes him £395, but i then said that if i doesn't believe in the guns he shouldn't sell them.

im happy :good:

You could get a decent Beretta for that sort of money mate, or a Winchester SX3 for that price as well (well if you stretch your budget slightly), but only if you look at the right places. ;) ;) ;)

If you stretched you budget slightly you could get a brand new Baikal MP-153, which look's good and strong and from what ive seen and heard there very durable and very reliable. They can take a load of abuse. :good: :good: :good:

But for me i would go for a Winchester SX3, as their great guns and great value for money. ;) ;) ;)

As someone said earlier.....Hatsun.......broken?? !!

I would cut ya losses and sell it when its fixed or indeed get a refund from the shop you bought it from under the Sale of Goods Act. I did just that, as there is nothing worse than being in the field with a gun that fouls up on you. Mine went back several times and it got so I never trusted it, resulting in taking a spare gun with me just in case.

The Escort looks great, I still have an affection for them and may buy one again, but it will be like a nuclear missile launcher or a fine old classic car, wheeled out washed, polished and put back in the garage......but I would never use it.
