Hi

Marsh man

Just a hazzard of the estuary we only use them as bait though if your going to catch a fish catch a proper one

Seriously though at the time the punt gun was in its prime they used to hunt them with boats no bigger than punts with a hand thrown harpoon makes you think a bit

Hope your keeping well

All the best

Of

My dog would try to get it in aswell !!

😀😃

Hi

Peter C was one of my best freinds in the shooting field

Took me on many days in the field and marsh a tru gent he would rather give you his gun on a day than take your bird

He sadly passed on on Xmas day

Anyway he wil always be with us in name and spirit when we are afloat

I'm glad you've enjoyed the build and I hope my mate will get as much pleasure from it as I did building it

We have a ml gun for it and hope to use it on the marsh

However modern shot and old guns create limitations so we are looking for a smaller breech loader capable of shooting non toxic to get the best from it

Thanks for all your support

I'm thinking of building another but a different design so if any one has plans / dimensions for the open undecked fen punts I would be very interested

All the best

Hi

Been a bit busy over the last few weeks so here's a update introduced my mate to PW he thinks its great cant get him to join yet as he can't think of a user name (or type) but there you go

Anyway we dug the guns out and decided major overhaul on them so I took a few pics hope your interested in a refurb bit

The first gun is in the picture above the largest of the muzzle loaders

Before we started

The plan is strip down and polish inside and out service locks and repaint

And a bit of work on the wood

Anyway 2 weeks into it we recon it will take 3 months so here's a few pics

Any refurb ideas welcome and happy to answer sensible questions as far as I able

Not very experienced with big ml guns

Started on the wood just to tidy it up a bit still the other side to do

Haven't found anything horrid yet and did uncover the original proof marks on the biggest gun just in the process of having the marks deciphered an that should give the age of it

Hope to find more when we take the stocks off

Hi

Sorry been a bit slow on updates

Been busy lot more work than we thought on guns and I got a breech loader that I've had to polish the bore on trying to re stock it waiting for date from proof house

Oh and BL bigger and heavier so I've drawn plans and sourced timber for a punt with a touch more displacement

I will update as soon as I've got some interesting stuff to put on for you all

Many thanks for looking at the thread

Excellent, good to hear it. I've just taken the plunge myself and got my first punt although it needs a bit of work so probably won't be ready this year

That's great news post a few pictures I'm sure there's a lot of interest

If you need any info there's a wealth of talent on here just ask

All the best with your project
