Hi everyone,

Have a look at the photos attached of my 12g S/S William Powell, on Saturday just gone I was pheasant shooting on beaters day it was the last day of the season and second drive of the day, a mass of pheasants flew over us I got to about my 10th shot (not 10th pheasant though) and I felt the gun collapse in my hand, I will be honest at first I did panic but once I saw that I still had all my fingers attached I was ok lol, the stock had completely snapped.

The gun had a crack in the stock repaired a long time ago and on closer inspection oil has seeped into the crack and over the years had weakened the wood.

You have to repair that! I don't know if a break like that is repairable, but restocking is expensive. If its not covered by your insurance, look into getting it repaired. The same thing happened to my linsley brothers ( look at my sig ) and the trigger guard snapped. I picked up a trigger guard of ebay that came from an english sbs, and the threads were the same so it worked just fine. A good welder should be able to repair the trigger guard from its two parts. PM me as i know someone who is very good ( not me ) if you need. I can probably get away with saying it is mine and he will do it for free.

I have just spoke with William Powell Birmingham and to have a new stock starts at ................. £4500!!!! the gun is only worth £800ish

This is because it has to be made from scratch, I will get it sorted somehow need to have a chat with my insurance.

Ouch - that is tough! The stock on my Henry Atkin did exactly the same just before Christmas 2012. It WAS thankfully covered by insurance less the excess and the gun now has a nice new stock [made & fitted in England] . The total cost was around £4500 and the RFD threw in a full service of the gun as well - it was built just over 100 years ago and is one of a pair.

GOOD LUCK
