chrisjpainter
Don't get the Mamba! don't do it! Mine was just a tale of milky woe. in low light conditions, beyond about 5x mag, I just got complete white out. No matter where I placed the scope on the rail, the same thing happened. so, i'd say if it has to be between those two, go for the Viper. If not? I love the 3-12x50 Hawke sidewinder Edited February 14, 2014 by chrisjpainter

chrisjpainter
Glad you're happy with them but a little surprised as I believe the glass is the same in both Mambas and Vipers. Am I wrong? No, you're not wrong. The odd thing is, I've not heard of anyone having the milky problems with Vipers, but it seems to be a well known issue with the Mamba. rabbiter
just the opposite for me,my viper used to white out at higher mag but honestly havent had an issue with my mambas, and yes i also believe they have the same glass, only difference being the turrets.........DAZ
kent
Soon to treat myself any views which has the edge ? The black Mamba is by far the most dangerous of the two

chrisjpainter
Green mamba trumps black ever bite! Tried so hard to avoid the inner geek, but failed! all green mambas (eastern and two westerns) are significantly less venomous than the Black Mamba. the BM's SC LD50* figure is 0.28 mg/kg whereas the EGM is 0.4 and the WGM a pretty paltry 0.7. Its average injection is also double the amount. Exciting times, eh? *SubCutaneous Lethal Dose50 is the amount of venom that it takes to kill 50% of test subjects when injected subcutaneously - usually lab rats or mice (don't tell the fluffy bunny brigade!) kent
My Mrs picked one up in a handful of grass accidently and threw it in a grass fight when she was a Kid in Africa, sort of a luck escape as she never got bitten! To think our own kids are scared of wasps Surprising what some folk are into I did the same thing many years ago with an Adder (I know it's not going to be as bad as the Mamba but bad enough) whilst clearing pop holes ready to release pheasants. It didn't half give me a fright. I've always been careful clearing them since.
Dekers
Right mixed reviews of both scopes above, if you believe forums, then give both a miss!
Salop Matt
I've never had any issue with any of my MTC's but I would choose the mamba to avoid the big stick up turret caps ! Mamba over viper for me and that's how I spent my money !

r1steele
Aye, bad enough to put a son of the wife's work mate in hospital for a week though I usually run the terriers through the pens before putting any birds in and for some reason I didn't have them that day so that was also fortunate. Seen a few dogs on the moors have a nip and it's not nice. It also makes you a think a bit more when checking your tunnels.

markfromholland
Sorry to read this topic later. Anyway, i had a mamba, wow nice looking scope. From 10x mag, very milky, was glad i could trade her for a viper. First opinion on the viper: very nice....... now the poi shifts when using the sideparallax knob. Pfff, i will go to leupold again
gixxerboy
To the other extreme I've had a Viper and now use a Mamba and no whiting out. My mate had a Hawke (Tac 30 I think) and on full mag I couldn't see anything. But I've got Hawke that came with my 452 and I can see through that fine. Scopes are such a personal thing. What suits you will not suit someone else. Best bet is to go and look through them at a shop.
Foxwit
I have the Mamba lite and I love it. All down to personal choice and what suits your own eye best.
