A few more on peas

After driving around my permissions the last two days I had seen nothing worth getting the gun out for.

I had also seen very little on the peas at the back of my house other than one large flock that was there one minute and gone the next.

So I was a little surprised when the farmer called to ask me to shoot them as he had seen a few on them.

Since he had asked I thought I had better give it a go .

When I got down the field there was as I expected not a bird to be seen , I put the decoys out set the hide up and started waiting , funnily enough I did not have to wait long and shot the first within 10 mins and it was quickly followed by a second.and after a hour I had 13 .

Things then slowed but every now and again I would get a flurry of birds and they decoyed very well.

I finished with 41

My shooting was not up to scratch today and I had lots of second barrel kills , I counted 65 empties

You can perhaps see by the colour of my face that it was quite warm with the sun in my face today.

Fenboy, you ignored the basic rule of not getting rid of that piece of white plastic from next to the decoy pattern. I dare say that error cost you at least 100 birds. All the pigeons were no doubt sat in the trees 10 miles away being put off by it.

Dam , that's why I missed out on a red letter day , thanks for pointing it out .

All the smaller looking white dots in that photo are actually feathers with the sun shining off them , funnily enough the birds still decoyed !
