A row of roe.

I sat up in the shade a hedge this afternoon looking for pigeons. I must have been fairly invisible because no more than 50m away a lovely six pointer buck with a clean head was giving a beating to a younger animal with a decent head still in velvet. The doe over which they were sparring was a few metres away from the action.

Then across the field I was in came an older roe doe with two yearling bucks at her side and another doe which may or may not have been related. All came for a peak at the action and at one stage there were seven roe all in a line.

Someone posted a trailcam picture the other day of a scruffy buck and the question was asked if it had mange. Well the two fighters were both shedding their coats and from a distance it could have looked like mange but it is just that time of year for them to grow a new summer coat.
