NickS Posted April 26, 2014 Report Share Posted April 26, 2014 Don't try this at home.... Uffa Fox, great yacht designer and eccentric, owned the Commodore's House, overlooking Cowes harbour. As the ferry arrived that was carrying a friend of his, Ron Goodwin, he thought it would be a good idea to welcome him with a shot from a small signal cannon normally used to start yacht races but now used just as an ornament. Not having any black powder, he emptied the contents of several fireworks into the muzzle and packed everything down.... Firing it didn't just produce a bang but also a magnificent display of sparks and exploding sub-munitions. Uffa greeted his friend, who didn't recognise him at first as his hands and face were blackened and covered in bleeding pockmarks.
