  1. 1. What 22LR subs do you use?

Recommended Posts

I have been using eleys for years and been hearing many stories of the inconsistancies, but never had any problems myself. Finally I have got onto the next batch and they are aweful!

I shoot a CZ452 and a 10/22. what do you feed your 22.

Thought a poll would be benefical, when I searched I couldn't work out the top choice.

Cheers

Magtech

Winchester

RWS

It was Magtech for years but the price has gone silly.

RWS are slightly more accurate than the Winchester, but Winchester win on HP size and stopping ability. Neither quite match the Magtech for me!

Admittedly a good day, and I can't remember if it was 50 or 60 yards but happy enough regardless!

On an aside, how many just test at 50-60 yards? I say this because I fail to see any meaning full differences at that sort of distance with any of the good ones being mentioned here as regards accuracy

.

If I had to choose .22 lr on terminals alone I should say CCI segmenting without a single shadow of doubt in my mind

What's are the Winchester penetration like? Shot some sk and the seem very hard and over penetrate

I like to study terminals and can tell you sk expand very well even at 100 plus. Don't be confused by the size of the hollow point hole. I don't see how you class "over penetrate" on quarry like rabbits when hit with 100 + ft lb with a 40 grain pill you will rarely recover a bullet inside the ribcage or head and need to head towards using some other suitable media.

Going away on a tangent a bit I gave some target ammo a go last year on quarry and it pretty much kills the life out of bunnies also (CCI "green tag" if I remember correctly). It also has reduced windage over hunting subs but not vastly and so I wonder if the very deep hollow point in Winchester effects its long range accuracy as I have always failed to get it to perform as good as one might expect past 100. One thing I can say is how a bullet looks means scant little outside the mind of the shooter as regards expanding

I tested my new Sako Quad .22 barrel with five brands kent, hoping CCI's would be best and if not Winchesters (hence two groups of each):

Settling on Eley's, I took out to 100m and swapped the barrel over to compare with the HMR. At 100m I was on the bottom post of the scope (essentially fifth mil dot) with the .22:
