I now only have the passat but the fleet prior to buying my dream job comprised:

Aussie 63 transporter, original paint.

84 t25 pickup

82 1800 mk1 gti

90 1600 mk2 driver (finest drive of my life)

Prior to that in chronological order:

72 1300 type 1 (written off after being lovingly restored)

73 1300 type 1(utter pants)

78 moonraker type 2 ( ugly but user friendly)

76 danbury type 2 (90bhp type four pancake conversion, mucho grunt)

63 1200 type 1 (uber cool natural patina).

I am currently looking for a T25 syncro panel van to replace the 110 that i foolishly sold my splitty for :-(

Can someone explain the different variants to me?

What's the one to go for.

Someone I know had a very old split screen Beetle with a factory fit mechanical sunroof and apparently that was up there with owning a chicken that laid golden eggs. Who knew?

I like Beetles for their potential - tax free and simplistic motoring. Also the ability to turn out something that looks like an old dog but flys at the lights

I ::

The basics

T1 the first off the line which was a split screen available in campers, pick ups, vans .

Vw didn't make campers as it was done out of house .

T2 is one big window

T25 is the scooby wagon which some were air cool but water cooled came out in this model

T4

T5

Then the latest model is t5.1 which is a face lift of the previous t5 with different engines

Splittys fetch in auction in camper with all the original equipment up to a woping £110k . Which was in America I think. Mental

I have the latest edition to the VW family the up! A groove up! To be exact so I suppose I am a vdubber in a way.The last VW I owned was in the mid 80,s an old golf that looked like a tip but the REME mechanic I bought it from had tweeted and added to the engine so it went like the clappers, regret having to sell it now but at the time she had to go.

Type one - beetle

Type two - transporter ( T1 splitty through to T5 most recent)

Type three - came as fast back, notch back ( my favourite) and square back (estate)

Type four - variant, very odd looking car!!

There are rakes of vw (kdf) oddities also including schwimwagen (amphibious) kubelwagen (morphed into the trekker), fridolin (made for postal service).

There's some very nice stuff owned by PWers! I'm currently running a 1960 bug, resto-cal look but with a few additions here and there. Stripped out and painted interior (because carpets and head linings are expensive!) Quick shifter fitted, all 4 gears now use the space that used to be 1st alone, its fantastic! Fibreglass wings and US spec indicators. The engine is a standard 1200 but thats going to change in the fairly near future unless I can find a vintage super charger (Anyone got a Judson?)
