Interview at the Police Station for Shotgun Application

Recommended Posts

Hi All.

After putting my shotgun application on 10th Jan I finally received a phone call today regarding an interview. The thing I don't understand is they want me to go into Mansfield Police station for the interview. How are they going to check my gun safe etc this way? Is this a bad thing im being called into the police station for the interview? Im worried now!

just speak to your shooting association for advice. there is just a slight possibility they wish to interview you under caution, I hope you didn't tell no fibs on the forms. either way like I say speak to your shooting association for guidance first just in case. perhaps a new policy in your area. I take it its a first time grant

Nope no fibs at all, after all they're going to find out either way! And yes its a first time grant.

Take a small recorder with you and get someone to take photos of you, just in case they taken you into a cell tie you up and beat you severely with there truncheons. You will need evidence that you went in there un hurt and un bruised for your claim.

But seriously its strange as you say, how are they supposed to check your security, there again its not FAC. So is slightly different.

Love to know the outcome of this one. Just don't walk in without speaking to your shooting org, the police to ask why not home and possibly a solicitor. I can only see the one reason at present and I hope I am not correct and the only FEO (unlikely) has his car off the road or something really wacky

I suppose it does make sense as it doesn't waste the time of the FEO coming to me and wasting fuel when I could just go to them. Roll on Wednesday at 10am next week. Tbh i'm not worried as I've disclosed everything and never had a criminal record so fingers crossed it all goes well!

I suppose a few do 2 visits as some don't get a safe until required, might as well say yes at their place when they can see more quicker then come and check security when in place and hand you your new SGC? Totally new to me

This might be it. Ask me the general questions that would be asked on a visit but at the station. Should they be happy come and visit to see my safe and hand me the SGC there and then as if they would if I hadn't got my safe in place on the first visit.

Well I rang the police and apparently its a suitability interview and that the home visit comes later. All procedure so they say.

Eh? For a shotgun license the police have to have a good reason to deny you one, so I fail to see the need for a suitability interview, if you haven't got a criminal record. It's probably as they say, a cost cuting measure. They are trying to do anything to cut costs, my mate when he got his licenses 2 weeks ago he had to pay the postage for the letter! They are so tight on money they won't even pay the postage.
