Theskyfox
Looks a lovely rifle. I was breifly considering getting a Steyr Hunting 5 with the Biathlon mechanism, but the sheer size of it (and £2000 price tag) put me off. Would it be legal in the UK as a semi auto? I've understood that its a bit of a "grey area". -Andrew Edited May 27, 2014 by Theskyfox
Zetter
Its still a really grey area as far as I know under UK law and there appears to be an "understanding" between importers and the home office that if they dont import them then the home office wont look at it too hard. I doubt we will see one in the forseeable future. Also even for the biathlon style one its £1600 which is a lot to spend on a rifle (although having taken up shooting shotguns as well it does put it into perspective somewhat )
srspower
Now that's an expensive air rifle that really is worth the money. It won't be a grey area for FAC airguns. Afterall you can have a .22lr in semi auto. Edited May 27, 2014 by srspower
Pilgrim53
Blimey just joined the forum , as I was looking to get a replacement for my hunting rifle , I'm using a ISP Airstream Mk3 in a custom stock at the moment and my Steyr Hunting 5 , that I can't get repaired in the UK , as I bought it while I was abroad in the forces. So I was looking at the Hunting 5 Auto . Know one is keen on brining them in , mainly because importers are to frighten that some one is going to run amuck with one . Thing is they are legal to import into the country no problem. I asked the legal department of BASC yesterday funny enough , yep totally legal no problem , just make sure it is UK legal 12Ft/Lbs , otherwise customs will have it crushed. Just to make sure I asked my local fire arms office , they said In there opinion , this is not a dangerous weapon , as long as It is UK legal go ahead they do not have a problem with it , they would not confiscate it , and would not charge any one who had one , but they then asked to contact your actual local fire arms officer , as he would have the most up to date info , as some info took time to filter down at HQ , contact with him was good , he looked at the Steyr company info , watched a few company videos and some other video of the rifle in action. Came back saying that he also saw no problem with this rifle , not a dangerous weapon , not an auto , would not charge or confiscate. go ahead and bring one if you want. There is more on Pimpmyairgun forum about this. As for price , I have looked , and waiting for people to get back to me from the EU , but door to door it looks like this will be between €1550 and €1720 , that's Euro , yep still a load of wonga , up there with a top end Daystate for sure. They are in the UK , I'm going to try one out with a farmer in East Sussex on Saturday , he recons it's the best tool that he has for grey squirrel , rats , pidgin , and bunny bashing . countryman
Unlikely to be allowed in Blighty, real shame, but that's our nanny state for you.

Have one on order should be here With me next week , depending on the dealer in Germany getting one from Steyr , imported into this country all legal above board , door to door delivery. countryman
Perhaps you could do your own review on the gun when you get one and post it on here, have you got it on FAC.

Afterall you can have a .22lr in semi auto. I think it will be a grey area, and its a .22lr and WMR, neither of which is a semi auto .22 air rifle, and it is certainly not any other calibre of air rifle. Grey is the word, but at under 12ft lb suspect you may get away with it, but..........

RossEM
What's happening with this? Did you test fire the gun?
Pilgrim53
Yes I did try it , it was one heck of an eye opener , made even better by it being owned by , and shown by a game keeper who knew how to get the best out of it. Woodies were no problem , a rabbit at about 35 yards , talk about wrong place wrong time , two squirrels chasing each other in a tree , bang bang , both fell to the floor ,without one of them having time to react , the gamekeeper saying see there is no way you can do that with a standard air rifle , as a tool for his work he said it has made most of his air rifles redundant , he can dispose of rats around the farm building much more efficiently. Even though he's only had it for just over a week , he's already thinking of getting a second .
RossEM
Very interesting, I can see that becoming a very useful gun for keepers and pest controllers.
