He's had a full MC licence until now and I want to encourage him to keep driving rather than rely on his Bike. Needs to be sub £1000 and of a low insurance category. I know he wont get much for this price but he's not a Car Tart and he's well endowed like his old man so it doesn't have to be your typical male p***s extension, just as long as its got an engine and a heater, looks and age are unimportant. TaxiDriver Posted June 1, 2014 Report Share Posted June 1, 2014 Avoid Saxo and some of the small Peugots as they have the worst NCAP ratings (or failed to get a rating) Keep it simple, Fiesta, Fusion, Focus for example, all readily available, not overly complicated and parts readily available new or s/hand. If you have got a friend with a dealership can you not ask him/her to look out for a good P/X for him as they tend to send older cars off to the auctions so it makes little difference to them how much they get for it. Its got to be a mk1 mx5, amazing reliability, not fast but superb handling, low insurance... My mate had a Volvo as a first car which had insurance as cheap as mine but his was faster and more comfy... Even though its 1.9 diesel assuming its non turbo one they are dirt cheap to insure. My mum had one for years and years and never missed a beat it was not a particularly desirable motor but couldnt really fault it. I was having a chat to a Peugeot dealer a few months ago and he had one sitting there which had almost 500,000 miles on it which was owned by a taxi driver and it had full dealer service history, he only bought it because it was the highest mileage one he had ever seen. Both are very reliable and build quality is miles better than anything ford, Vauxhall,Peugeot or Citroen and insurance cheaper than Nissan or Toyota. Young drivers will be shafted whatever they drive these days. I would defo look at classic cars if possible though. Turns out there was chuff al difference between polo, corsa and fiesta to.insure. The polo isnt made of foil like the others and likely to be more reliable. He still pays a fortune.
