old shell decoys

Recommended Posts

Sounds like they are the very thin flimsy shells that fitted into each other and 12 of them fitted into a coat cartridge pocket. They came supplied with a piece of wooden dowel that had a panel pin inserted into one end. The decoy had a small hole in the middle of the back, which fitted over the pin, the whole thing then wafted about in the breeze. Problem was, in anything other than a slight breeze, the decoy blew off the dowel and into the next field. They may well have been the first of the commercially available 'shell' type decoys, I do not know. The only other type of shell deeks were made of a lino type material and were packed flat. They then folded into a shell shape and two front flaps interlocked to keep the thing together.

As already stated, a picture will aid I.D.

They sound like the Shooting Developments of Leslie, Fife, decoys. All one light grey colour with neck and wing bars and a bit of black on the tail and a round yellow with black dot sticker for the eyes? Very thin plastic that came with a 10 inch wooden peg with a soft plastic fork with lugs.

I still have 20 or so. I'll take a picture tonight and post.

Iv got some old shell pigeon decoys very light in construction from the eighties anyone know whst they are please?
