Good on you,, I love it though my net is a "pull" with a 1.5 meter mouth,, great at this time of year and it's amazing what you can dredge up apart from shrimp, plenty of flatties, weavers (got to watch out for them) sandeel, cuttlefish fish,,,,, not to bad for me as I live on the beach, so a quick half hour out gets you a good bowl full,, few mins on the boil and your sitting watching the sights with a nice feed of fresh shrimp,,,,,, that's it I am going tonight!!!!!!!!!!!

When I first met the wife her grandad who was Then 70+ Used to go with a push net once a week at new Brighton he caught shrimp by the bucketful he was a professional fisherman and a lifeboatman so he knew were to go. I remember he used to take all night boiling & shelling them, ther was that many.

I used to use a push net which I made myself when I was living up in Fleetwood a good few years ago. It was hard work if you wanted to make a few bob out of it rather than just getting some shrimps or flatties for yourself but still quite "satisfying" until I bought a shrimp boat called the "Saint Margaret" and worked it on both tides most days which turned out a little more profitable.

Thanks for the info. Never seen anyone having a go on my local beach. Think I might just make one and have a go. My local is Perranporth on the north coast of Cornwall a good surf spot, is it better when the sea is flatter or does it not make much differance?

See have many weavers I can find, I have been stuck enough times when surfing.

  • 3 weeks later...

Get your net from a bloke called ropeseller on evil bay.

I had a push net but made myself a beam trawl instead as I was nudging too many decent flatties which escaped.

Since then dragging the beam has yielded some very nice Dovers, and I do mean nice, You would be amazed at the size of fish swimming around in 18 inches of water.
