Bloody livid I am!! I have three Larsens about , one doing particularly well taking 10 Magpies in the last week.

The woman who runs the horse yard, next to my yard said some bloke had made a complaint about my larsen, and could I move it, so not to cause grief I moved it down by the pigs. Not visible from anywhere. Went down to feed the pigs this morning and the trap was tipped up, opened, and call bird gone. (bloody do gooders)

I'm not to sure about this mystery bloke, I think it may be one of the ladies that use the livery yard???

to get to that trap they would have to walk a good 50 yds across my yard, around the back of my shed, and then down to the trap the sheds 60 ft long. So nobody should be down there as its obviously private property.

Course nobody knew anthing about it when I had a word with four of the women this morning.

Then to make matters worse, when I went round to check the the other two traps, Yeah you guessed.

I'm not going to say what I'd do to a bloke if I catch him, But I don't know what to do if it's a woman.

How can I catch the ****, they Have 24 hrs to do their thing but i've only a limited time to watch,

Again I say it

Bloody livid I am :oops::oops:

A well situated trail camera may help to identify the culprit.

fenboy true, but I don't have one. and to buy one to catch the culprit would cost me over a hundred quid ,whitch I can do without spending. and besides I shouldn't have to the're tresspassing. Thats not a dig thanks for the suggestion, just still a bit cross.

HDVA.

Thanks for the links. I think I'll try my local store and see if they have any trail cams left. quite like the idea of an alarm mine as well.

Perhaps the culprits have never seen a magpie bludgeoning a baby blackbird to death, hope you catch the ---hole

la bala, true, they only see what they want to see anyway.

If they had damaged anything it would have been worthwhile reporting it to the police ( not that they're likely to do much) but at least the message may have got through to the culprits and they may think twice about doing it again.

birdsallpi. they'll think twice if I ever catch them

It's a ball ache when someone does that, my mate works on an estate where the woman from the horse yard right in the middle of his beat was always chatting away to him asking if he'd had any foxes how his larsens were catching, seemed quite knowledgeable on the subject, and even phones to tell him she had seen one of his traps vandalised and call bird gone, and she had seen a man walking nearby, this went on for a while she kept seeing this "man" but could never give anything other than a vague description..... Matey puts a couple of traps out in obvious locations with trail cams watching all of them, the culprit - this ******* woman from the livery yard caught red handed by all the cams letting call birds out then smashing the traps up.

Its a pest to do but often pays off, but a decent padlock on the door into the catching chamber is sometimes the best way to deter tampering

Can't stand people messing with traps! We get it every so often here. Perhaps someone local may have one you could borrow for a week or so? I would offer to lend you one as you are not far but the only ones we have here are brand new in blister packs.

Your best bet is to get them on film and then take the film to the police and then get them to deal with the person..... you ranting at them or more will only get you in trouble......

Try putting up some PRIVATE KEEP OUT signs or CCTV in use trespassers will be reported to the police to make them think twice. Cheap and may make them think twice.

I'm not surprised. I'd personally recommend if you find someone meddling that you deliver a strong lecture on how "saving" one magpie means sentencing hundreds of ickle baby birds to death. Bonus points if you can list some rare species your work is protecting. Then tell her if she does it again you'll call the police AND prosecute. Actually, dropping how worried you are about the *insert name of rare and hopefully cute species* in the ears of the livery yard uses might bear fruit.

Tip: whilst doing this don't touch her, don't raise your voice above strong, don't swear and don't wave your hands around. Be coldly and righteously angry, but not threatening to her personally. Hopefully people do this kind of thing out of ignorance, not out of malice. So let's make them not so ignorant.

If you confront her tape the conversation on your phone, keep calm and don't raise your voice..... If she lies to the police and they visit you, play the recording with a knowing smile then ask for her to be prosecuted......! I've done this before and to be fair it worked a treat

  • 2 weeks later...

i would say to get what my friend calls a ***** scarcer they can be fitted to gates and it works by setting on a 12bore blank and it doesn't half make someone run. before anyone says they are totally legal as a few of my landowners use them to keep people out of areas or away from kennels. you can buy them online or should be at the cla this weekend
