An unexpected afternoon on the crows

Had a great day out yesterday, shot really well and finished on 33,got a call last night from my mate Pickerup asking if I fancied having a go in the morning at some crows which were all over a local barley field. I had agreed to help clear my mother in laws bedroom ready for the decorators so said I would ring when i was finished. Anyway after rushing round like a headless chicken managed to get everything done and home for 1.30. called pickerup and was in the hide for 2pm.....result. He had been there since 12 and only had a couple. The barley had no fallen areas so we were limited to were we could put the decoys,we put three on a wire fence and dotted another dozen on the edge of the field and put a couple of the despatched crows floaters on the tramlines . Pickerup had set the hide in a ditch ,with the barley in front/above of us and trees behind us it was a great hide however only a small window to shoot. The farmer was adamant he wanted the field shot as he had seen 100+ eating is pension fund so we turned out and did what we could without damaging the crop.

2.30 it was like someone opened the floodgates and the air was black with crows and J'ds. This was probably the most challenging shooting i have experienced however we both got in the groove and had a couple of cracking doubles. To make the shooting even more difficult a dozen cows took an interest in our decoys on the fence which meant we could shoot in that direction...:oops:

After a thunder/hail storm things slowed down however we finished on 59.

The floaters worked really well, defo need to invest in a couple.

Cheers Pickerup cracking afternoons sport and banter.... :good::good:
