Bird puller

Now that is a very good question. I have tried Spice mix, aniseed mixed withcooking oil to spread it and cant say either of them actually worked although the spice mix is a more likely success based on the years bags. A lot of people rate the product but I have seen no conclusive proof it works at all - I dont know anyone who can demonstrate by facts that it does.

as above put some straw down and loose feed keeps them occupied longer, but I also have two steel drums, put some wheat in add some fishing bait aniseed oil more wheat so on till full put the air tight lid on let it stand, I use the barrels in rotation, really does smell of aniseed. not sure if it works but at least I'm trying and fishing bait oil is cheap, only needs a few drops at intervals atb

Hand feed over straw rides, keeps them occupied rather than filling up at a feeder then heading off into the sunset! Also keep dogging in right through the season, better than any fancy additive!

Thanks for that

We do do that I was just thinking of trying somthing different

Bird puller have you tried it ????

I would say yes it holds birds better than not using it (bird puller that is , no not aniseed or any other **** ,bird puller ) but you still have to do other things to help keep them around straw rides , feeding split maize ,dogging in ,predator control ,,clean water and could go on .

an old saying goes you only get out of things what you put in

Can be hard work keeping your birds where you want them, suppose £35 for some additive is a small price, even if it gets you another dozen in the bag at the end of the season. Know some shoots feed pellet right through season, and it really makes a lot of difference ( expensive though! ).

Totally agree, hand feeding is the key I find over straw and loose in the covers. Dog in as much as you can. Some people say spice, aniseed etc works some don't, I don't use it and never have so I can't say either way however on old keeper friend that is sadly no longer with us told me that if I did use it not to stop using it, no good stop start with it got to be all or nothing. I'm not so sure about pellets right through the season though, my bird get to a stage late October early November where they simpley won't eat pellets. Rich 1985

I love pedantry. it is obvious I havent but you make your points about straw rides etc. At least mine was pointed towards additives.
