spandit
Tried a dog hairdressers that's nearer to us now we've moved as they were getting a bit untidy and being spaniels, they were full of seeds etc. My boy dog gets matted hair under his ears so we asked for those to be clipped. The rest of him we wanted trimmed/stripped. Got the poor thing back and he's been given a #1 all over! It will keep him cool and clean, I suppose, but he looks ridiculous and has lost all his dignity "curtains" at the back Here's how they looked before... Not terribly happy but it will grow back. He caught a rat in the garden too so perhaps the lighter weight helped him?
turbo33
My cockers off for a No1 tomorrow.....instructions are as always, make him Labrador Seriously, with this hot weather, I think its kind to get it back a bit and helps keep an eye on the seed stuff and air to their ears, which with cockers in particular, is a good idea. Clearly mine likes it as he gets even more looney Might post a pic of his before and after tomorrow
spandit
More fool them, as it won't need doing for months now! Being intact, though, he's well endowed (like his owner ) and it tends to look a lot more obvious with no fur around...
Berettacocker
I cut my own with small scissors, still look like spaniels when I've finished !

loriusgarrulus
Hope the hair grows back before needed to work as not much protection when jumping into the rough when the coat is cut very short.
PERCE
I'd never clip a spaniel, grooming the dead hair out with a ferminator or similar is far better.
loriusgarrulus
I'd never clip a spaniel, grooming the dead hair out with a ferminator or similar is far better. I use a ferminator and a Mars Coat King for cotty bits.

spandit
Just got back home and seen him in the flesh for the first time... he looks like a boxer! At least it will help a bit in this heat...
figgy
Mine once came home looking like a lab after my wife told them to shave him. They did from nose to tail. She's been told this time when he goes to leave some fur on outsides of his ears as this gives him character. Figgy
loriusgarrulus
Got a Oster A5 clipper with a few depth blades to do anything on ours. Expensive to buy, but saved a fortune over the years and more than paid for themselves. Also got a pair of wahl dog clippers picked up for a fiver from a car boot still in box not used by the seller. See a lot of dogs shaved in the summer not good as no sun protection, they need a bit of hair depth left on. They can get skin cancer too. If you can see the skin through the hair, clip is too short.
