lakeside1000 Posted July 16, 2014 Report Share Posted July 16, 2014 (edited) I tried some standard steel rod , but over the normal length of the arm with a dead bird aboard it just sagged under the weight and was totally useless , I have now purchased some concrete reinforcing bar, its about 5 mm diameter and is almost unbendable over a short length ie: 4 feet or so.,, very cheap from most steel suppliers or good builders merchants. and with a mig it welds up very well. If you need to bend it at the end to mount the bird or decoy just heat it cherry red at the point you need to bend, then cool in cold water as soon as you have the desired angle.
