Hard work today

After spending the day at the CLA yesterday both Gaz and myself where looking forward to getting out today. Gaz got to mine early and after a good breakfast at the local fishery we headed out in search of pigeons. We checked the wheat field we shot last weekend and this had a few birds using the same flight line but they ignored the wheat and where heading to a farm in the distance which the farmer wont let us shoot. We left them and carried on looking. We checked several rape and barley stubbles but all showed little or no birds. We decided to go back to the wheat and setup on the grass next to it with the hope of pulling the birds of the flight line. This worked for about an hour but the line soon moved over and the sport just stopped. We packed up and carried on looking. Checking the same stubbles as earlier saw more birds but very little flighting. We eventually came to some disced barley stubble that had a good number of birds down so we set up but again after an hour it was obvious the birds wanted to be at the other end of the ground so another move was made. This worked but we had to constantly change the pattern to keep the birds interested. A lot of birds decoyed well but most would come in so far then shy off. We both shot some cracking birds but Gaz took the show shooting the best I have ever seen him shoot, consistently dropping 50-60+ yard birds with his new gun. We ended the day with a very hard earned bag of 147 pigeon.

Cheers

Ben
