Left Handed Shotguns! (How hard can it be?)

Hello People,

I never realised how hard it was to source a L/H shotgun.

I want one for my son who is keen but new to clay shooting, so I don't want to pay too much (maybe this is the stumbling bock, the price?)

I only want to pay between £300 to £400 pounds just to see if he adapts to it or not. No point spend ing money where its not going to be worth it.

But I know somewhere out there is a semi-auto or an O/U in a lefie set up that is affordable for what we want, I know there is because I've seen them and missed them.

Let me know if there is one out there you know about.

Regards,

Nick.

A lot of autos come with shims to adjust the stock. I'm a lefty only owned one proper left handed gun and I couldn't get on with it. My Beretta auto is RH and the cartridge ejects across my face, never been a problem. My MK38 has a RH cast it fits me and my SxS is very RH the only problem is the triggers.

Many people adapt, but if someone is starting out why not get the right thing at the beginning. The one thing you must check though, even if he is left handed he might have a right master eye and if this is the case he probably should just learn to shoot righthanded it isn't a big deal from what I have seen to go that way.

At this price would you as a manufacture set up all the machines with reverse tooling to make something that sells for £400 they don't exist unless you want a Hatsan Escort

You will get a loverly K80 for about £8500 which will be true left hand

Isn't the only true left handed O/U that opens to the left instead of the right a Blaser F3? Unless you buy custom made of course.

Hollands will do a left hand top lever...but not necessary

A lot are wrongly described I have 2 LH OU straight or cast off no good for me needs to be cast on some claim to be able to bend the wood from cast off to on. They can't change the toe, the toe is important imo as it can give a nasty bruise, an adjustable butt pad and comb can do it for but add to cost. With a budget of £3-400 you will find one eventually but that is no gaur enter that it will be suitable.

Bettinsoli may be the best budget wise but not great guns browning or beretta will hold value better but around £1k for cast on gun.

Gun shop rugby is owned by a leftie so keep a bit of stock worth a call

Definitely shoot the same hand as master eye as a natural RH who changed shoulder it is doable and makes buying a gun much easier.

How old is your son?

Nick,

There are 2 things that 'make' a gun a lefty- cast and ejection (for semi and most pumps). Which are you looking to have? If ejection, then the Hatsan or an O/U will be it as there are few left eject autos and I doubt any others in your price. O/U obviously don't have that issue. If it is cast, then your options are straight stocked (most semis and some O/U), shims (most of the remaining semis), bending a stock, or holding out for a manufacturer's O/U that hits the rest of your specs.

thanks,

rick

Hi there

I asked the very same question over a year back, ended up with a Lanber for £350.00 didn't want to spend a lot !!! it's a RH cast and I believe I am left eye dominant, but I regularly shoot 25 - 25 out of 50 and enjoy it greatly !!!!

cheers

Steve

So your shooting left handed with A rh gun?

i do with a pair of mine, my semi autos a rightie and it fits so perfect when i shoulder it and perfect every time i havent even bothered using the shims that came with it to change it to a leftie, from the first shot it felt better than my previous left handed gun my side by side is almost as good , well until i pull the trigger and feel the kick!

i know left handed guns are out there cheap enough as ive seen them but visit a couple of local gun shops and have a try of a few righties for fit as you might be pleasently suprised... when i was looking for a new semi auto as i weas looking at spending what to me at least was a considerable amount (and one that i couldnt afford!) i was determined to get a left hander but after shouldering a couple of right handed it didnt worry me a bit buying a rightie

if all else fails and you up your budget a bit i know for a nice left handed lanber for sale :)
