demonwolf444
Yesterday was roasting and me and the pup were playing with the hosepipe. She was loving the water so today while it was hot i took her to the river. I went into the river and encouraged her to go in, she went tentatively at first but was soon up to her ears and swimming properly. It was a really fun positive experience seeing her think for herself and knowing when she was out of depth. The current was strong so i was always ready to swim after her if needed as i know the stretch of river very well these 10 years. It was nice seeing her cool off running up and down the banks jumping in and trying to get the family dog ( water shy ) to play. She is only 15 weeks or so, but it was really nice to see her react so well to the water. Also met a few black labs ( which she is very submissive towards on account of a fear created of the family black cat ) on the walk back which was really good for her! She's really made my day! demonwolf444
Really got me enthused! I can't wait till she is older and can start coming out on the permissions and shoot days with me. All good fun making memories and today was a good one!
kent
Good for you and the puppy! The submission to the other dogs has nothing to do with their colour BTW its natural in an immature pup to show submission to an unknown adult, the colour thing can come through from you though (dogs even puppys can read their owners like they were telepathic)

demonwolf444
Yep, very bright in many ways but I doubt it will start burning any crosses on your lawn - I'm afraid i don't follow! Well today she met a staffie and was just fine but cowered at the lab we met further up. Her kennel is by the log stack and the cat likes to go looking for mice by the log stack, so she starts barking like mad at about midnight every time he walks in front of the log store. She is especially nervous of him at the moment as just today the cat bought in a bunny and meryn thought she would quite like some bunny so the cat threw some paws hissed and chased her off.. oddly my other dog gets on fine with the cat; they sleep together. Sorry just joking that that puppies cannot join the KKK! The cat is teaching the pup who is in boss and can you blame it? Remember all your thoughts and fears transmit down the lead but the staffie and the lab could just as easy be giving off different signals, the staff could have been saying "hi little buddy", the lab" don't bother me pipsqueak". Likely the cat and puppy will get things sorted and my money is on the cat being "top dog". Your pup has natural dog talk built in some but at present is learning cat and the moggy is putting the crash into the crash course Just coz dogs don't talk don't mean they don't communicate, imagine if you could smell some urine and work out a fellas rank in society, if he was in good health, his sexual status and what he had eaten for breakfast etc.
Les*1066
I think Springers, and Spaniels in general, are just born to be water loving. As everybody else has said, it's really great to see a pup make its first acquaintance with the wet stuff. As for cats, I had four German Shepherds and one moggy years back, and it was the cat who ruled the roost. It was always funny to see the dogs chase the cat around a corner, and 10 seconds later the dogs would be legging it with the cat in hot pursuit!
