Hot Tubs

Ok, I know very little about these so a few pointers would be appreciated.

First off I'm looking for a round one (It just works a treat in the area I have planned for it) 4 people and no more than 2.5m diameter overall.

So, running costs, makes to consider/avoid, what else do I need to know?

Cheers.

I thought it was the new bowl for the car keys.

Hot tubs are so in the past now, a swim spa is the new hot tub with massage seating at one end.

Couple lads I know have inflatable ones for the warmest summer months then away for rest of year.

Cost for heating and chemicals is around a tenner a week.

What's wrong with a couple tins of beans and the garden pond.

Don't take any notice of the negative posts, they're only jealous!! LOL

Be prepared for a bit of messing about with the chemicals getting the PH right and clarity, I emptied mine out and refilled it about 5 times the first year because the water kept clouding up. Then I twigged, you have to make some house rules.

Always have a quick shower first.

Don't let the kids go in it with buckets of suntan lotion all over them

Tell the teenager with a gallon of gel on his bonce to wash his hair first.

General things like this, They will think you a miserable old so & so but they're not having to mess about keeping it clean, balanced and pleasant to be in.

I don't know much about different makes. If you want a round one I would consider having an hexagonal instead. You really do want decent seating.

Depends how old you are, but I'm glad I never bought a really big deap one because you and your guests have to get in and out of it and my hips are kna******.

We love ours and have probably had it nearly 10 years

Hope that helps

Face it, anyone who uses it and who is not you will be taking a pee in it.

I can see it now 'wash your hair, scrub off that lotion, take a shower....' = sneaker slash to get you back

EDIT:

I just googled swim spa - looks bang on and you could get all 20 members from the local swingers club in there in one go

Ohh nice warm little mice house, wildlife friendly as well another plus point.

2.5 meters is a good size area you could get a bigger tub in, sick to eight person one and have more guests round to partake in the fun.

Reading the buyers guides they say you need to wet test your choices so best take your swimming cossy with you.

  sneaker slash and don't eat the malteasers dropped out the shorts leg after being nipped off.

Mmm warm body soup pass the bread.

Have asparagus and poached eggs for breakfast and wash it down with 4 pints of coffee - if the salesman gives you any nonsense then let him have it

 one way to drive a hard bargain, how long to clean after I let this lot go mr I won't drop the price sir.

Makes me want to go shopping for one, ask how good the filters are and drop a bag of soot and dog hair in.

Out door shower or jet wash the dirty ***** before letting them in.

Yes the outdoor shower is very useful, but has to be drained every winter which is a bind. I forgot mine once and had to replace a lot of expensive chrome pipe work.

Every one that uses my spa or swimming pool know the rules now and it works out great for everyone

Deckers, you must have more money than sense old bean( I'm only jealous mate ha ha) buy the wife a blow up paddling pool ( £3.99 from fresco) and spend the rest on shooting / fishing etc,

I know beggar all bout hot tubs, but the suggestion of the swim spa sounds like a winner to me,

I used to import Norwegian hot tubs that ran off chopped wood to heat the water. They came as a self assembly kit and were easy to put together and took 30 mins to heat up. Being made of Norwegian hard wood they lasted well and aged well - they did need treating on the outside every two years but apart from that were great.

Then they cost me £500 to buy and I sold them for £1,500 and £1,800 assembled.

If you are interested I will see if the firm is still doing them and if they will export to you.

Been in a friends this morning , he says it costs a fortune to run and they have a problem with rats under the decking. We thought about one but have decided it's cheaper and easier to use my mates.

As for the swim spas another friend had one installed last year, they had to crane it over the house, I didn't want to upset him and ask how much that was.

I have a perfect place for a round one with a maximum overall diameter of 2.5m.

Limited choice in round, square makes more sense on many levels, but square doesn't work for me on the siting, likewise these swim tubs are far too big and the wrong shape for the intended space.

As for usage and children, family, friends, I have other plans! :D:):good:

I'd love to get one for the front garden so that me and the current Mrs Oxfordshooter can chillax in, and at the same time say a friendly hello to the neighbours as they walk past.

A quick question, how much 'matter' can the filters on these things cope with?
