Can anyone recommend a good bag or sack to keep shot birds in while in the field? Are hessian sacks the best?

Edit: Thanks in advance for any advice. And just realised I may have posted this in the wrong section by accident. Sorry Mods, feel free to move.

not got round to trying this idea yet, have thought of having a sack/bag made up from a nylon shower curtain you just need a friend with a sowing machine, they are so light ,let air through to cool and take up no space, would not be strong enough to carry birds but will keep flies off

Konnie, get a carp sack from a tackle shop almost exactly the same except the sack will be softer and black.

Think ive mentioned this before but all you need is a can of cheep fly spray when you shoot a bird give it a spray around the head under wings and around the anus of the bird this will stop flys landing and blowing your pigeons, also definitely lay them in shade hang in trees in shade to cool them down .

hope this helps, atb ezi

I disagree , they can also be green :lol:

I use carp sacks , I brought two that were on offer about 4 years ago at £3 each , I can easily fit 60 birds in each one.

I'm not sure i'd want to be spraying chemicals on something that will enter the food chain.

Thanks everyone,

Can you carry the birds in carp sacks Fenboy? Or do you transfer them to another bag when you pack up? If so, what bag?

Yes I carry them in mine , no strap but I just sling them over my shoulder.

Some here fairy cheap I would go for the large size depending on what you wish to carry.

I use the white mail sacks from Royal Mail. There is no name on them at all, they are made from woven plastic material. Lightweight, white (reflects the heat) strong & washable. I use the same sacks as carcass bangs for rabbits & small deer as they can be left in the sacks whilst hanging. A visit to your local delivery office and a friendly attitude should get them for free too!
