crow, pigeon shooting.

It varies on the terrain.

If I am alongside a wooded area, I can tuck it under the trees about 100 yards away and its OK, but in the wider prairies I shoot, the further away the better.

A farmer once offered to buy my truck so he could park it in the field as a bird scarer.

 I'll be using my truck tomorrow parked up in middle of next field hopefully will keep the crows off that field and send them my way. :) atb Terry

Thats what myself and jdog did while pigeon decoying , seemed to work well keeping them out of adjacent fields, it certainly didn't put them off anyway :)

The only time I would leave my car that close, if it was behind the hedge out of sight, if it was on the field I was on it would be at least out of range of the cartridges I use, the last thing I want to see is the side of my motor looking like a pattern plate after a dose of clear pigeon 6s have just missed a pigeon and hit my motor.................If I was you I would leave it at least 150yds to 200yds.

  • 2 weeks later...

I was watching pigeons following the combine on the rape whilst harvesting . I have sat in my truck in bad weather during the winter and shot pigeons out of the window over decoys . Vehicles don't seem to bother them much .

I've found that pigeons are not put off by vehicle as they don't seem to equate them to danger.

How many times have you stopped in your car to observe pigeons and crows in a field and the minute you open the door and get out, there are off. I have seen it many times where I'm next to my car loading my gear and pigeons have flew past well within shooting range.

I've parked my vehicle as close as 30 yards behind my hide in full view and pigeons still came in to the decoys.

I'm sure I read somewhere that some syndicate were using scrap cars as hides and had been very successful.
