New cocker pup

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

I'm fairly new to the forum so hi :).

I recently picked up my 11week old cocker bitch. I'm just doing some basic recall with a puppy dummy, sock ball, tennis ball etc. In the house she is fine and comes straight to me on recall. But when she is in the garden, she picks the item up and feels the need to walk around with it and not come directly back to me.

I know she is young but I just want to nip it in the bud if possible and get her to come direct. Any advise would be greatly appreciated :)

Forget the dummy for now concentrate on the recall she's doing fine in bringing it back in doors so take that as a win at this stage. You can worry about the outside stuff in a few months! If you don't do it out side you don't give her chance to learn it wrong, she's very very young to try and correct at the moment.

Just bond with her as she is 11 weeks old.....mine is know 13 months old and still playing with toys and walking around the garden with it.....

He will swim out 30 yards and bring back a duck decoy, also retrieves rabbits and a pricked pigeon yesterday with no fuss...

But still loves being a pup.....

Thanks for the input guys, first time with my own dog rather than the families so just want her to be the best she can be, she has been egar to learn in the house so just thought I would see if she was up to anything else more productive.

I have put the dummies away for now and have just focused on getting her socialised to noises and things.

Here is a photo of her.
