Kevinjohnson34
Loki is now 6 months old and still absolutely bonkers which I quite enjoy but the question is how much training can I or should I be doing with him? at the moment we do the about 2-3 sessions a day of about 10 minutes long just simple sit and stay until he's called and retrieving a dummy which most time he will sit while I throw it and wait until I send him, I have also taken him to the clay grounds to see what he made of the noise and he wasn't phased in the least not even when we were stood within a few feet of the guys shooting and he just loves the water. any advice from people that have had or got HWV's or similar breeds would be very much appreciated as this is the first time I have tried to train a gun dog. The best thing I can say is just remember what its supposed to do as a HPR and also what you want. Been near any game with it yet?
Kevinjohnson34
I haven't been near game intentionally but while walking him he points at rabbits and pigeons and one occasion dived into some rape and put a pheasant up. I would like him to be a good all round gun dog he doesn't have to be a world beater but I would like him to be as good as he can Edited August 6, 2014 by Kevinjohnson34
Ollieollie
I have one, as you said she's a lunatic, much better than she was mind, it's a marathon with a viz. plenty of time and patience and you'll get there. Rory majors DVD series is most useful. Good luck and keep us updated
Clydebuilt
My Wire is just over the year and settling down nicely. I was told by many trainers they are the Peter Pan of the dog world and the best thing you can do is just give them time. I concentrated on the basics and good manners from young but never hounded him, excuse the pun, he is so eager to please that training is made easy. I've moved onto blood tracking as he is primarily a deer dog but small steps and taking it easy seems best approach so far. Good luck with your training, they really are fantastic dogs
