Newbie(s) to Lindisfarne Wildfowling

I have this morning been blessed with a season permit from Lindisfarne Wildfowlers (Many thanks, Mr Ashcroft!) and now keen to get out into the wintery mud for a bit of armed birdwatching.

I am currently collecting all the gear (shiny new waders, newly cleaned SX3 etc.) and now would appreciate someone more knowledgeable to give me the idea.

I told the wife that the gear will pay for itself because I'll be putting a goose on the table at least every month. :-@

Wildfowling experience limited to one flight, mostly rough shooting in the past including what I later realised was poaching with my grandfather as a kid (35 odd years ago).

Anyone more experienced than me interested in letting me tag along some time in November? The breakfast pies/evening drinks will be on me to any kind soul willing to show me the ropes.

Good luck on the goose a month. I have not shot Lindisfarne for many years but if no one takes you up on the breakfast offer and you go alone take time and learn safety on the marsh first. Fenham Flats may not have many deep gutters to cut you off from safety but my recollection is of plenty very sticky mud.

Thanks Grahamch, Blackpowder, kent n'all. I'd heard that the Newcy Wildfowlers were very helpful to newbies like me. I'll check out their website.

As for the goose-a-month promise to the wife; that was a joke (if only it was the only rash promise I'd made to her since we met!)

I'm old enough now to enjoy many things without necessarily achieving the main prize, shooting included. As for the other things, well, then we're back to all those rash promises to the wife again :-)

Hope you enjoy you one and only season Wildfowling. The only way out of this situation is either find a good game dealer who has Geese, or find some very good excuses. Harrycat should be able to help you with the latter.
