Bean stubble - the first of the summer.

I drove back from the North early today and completed almost a full day of work before the quest for pigeons got the better of me. At 4:30 I went up to my favourite farm and best flight line to see if the beans had been harvested in my absence this week. Sure enough there was a stubble and a stupendous line of a bird every two minutes diving straight into the field.

There are actually two lines into this field from opposing directions making it difficult to attract all of the pigeons using the field to one hedge or another. A quick visit to the farm yard had the farmer out on his tractor and he deposited two large round bales just where I wanted them in the centre of the field to enable me to shoot in all directions tomorrow.

I will let the PW massive know how I get on.

I had 26 on a bean stubble during an impromptu trip on Tuesday. Just picking up the odd bird on a light flight line.

The field is strewn with beans, they are everywhere; it should be littered with pigeons. On the shoot tomorrow to put feeders out so will have another look to se if they have found it.

Seems to be a theme developing here, just back from checking two separate farms with three day old bean stubble's and not a bird to be seen! As per Penelope, fields strewn with beans and should be littered with pigeon. Cultivated wheat stubble giving up a good harvest of pigeon over the past few days but the beans are devoid of birds, the watch goes on.

This year has been quite simply, dire, we spent all day weds, bean stubble was fruitless, so moved to volunteer rape, lots of birds, just wouldn't deek.

We tried magnets, bouncers, changes of pattern, nothing worked, I've never experienced such poor shooting in all the years I've shot.

Still a lot of wheat fields to be cut down on the marshes , cutting today in fact , Beans on the up lands are all cut now and started to leaf up , and next years rape drilling is now coming through and I heard the Beet factory open on the 17th Sept................shooting on the bean stubble was ok but I have known it to be a lot better.
