eley subs not extracting

452 is bolt action. I tried several types of ammo like you do when I first got except eley. I settled on winchester and cci as there is nothing between them in my rifle both extract fine live and spent and had no problems with either. Got eley to try just for a change as heard good things about them then read somewhere they don't extract live very well so loaded 5 in mag and 1st failed to extract straight away!. I removed and tried two more different and three from another box but still the same. I loaded 5 winchester and 5 cci in mag, chambered and extracted 10 straight no problems. Extractor obviously ok, all clean just guess my rifle does not like them. Don't no about empty yet as not fired any so will be interesting. Probably get quarter inch group at 100 yards knowing my luck just won't be able to extract casses 😂

Ive had this recently with Win subs on my 452 bolt action, i cleaned the extracter claws and all is ok now,

Over the years crud had formed behind the claws. I will clean them more often now.

Ive tried a few brands but i will stick with Wins because im happy with them.

Had close inspection and found after manually extracting them they all have shiny ring around lead shoulder so measured around cci and winchester and they are a fraction smaller around this area!. Can't tell exactly how much because me fine dial on vernier seen better days. If bullet is a little tight then should be ok extracting after firing I hope.

If the lube is quite waxy then a build up of this can often be the reason for poor extraction.

+1

Same problem, same cause with the Anschutz. Also the bullets measured 0.225-6 thou' which probably didn't help. Firing them off was the only sensible way to get them out. Try SK and see if they suit your rifle. These are oily as opposed to waxy and it doesn't take a few seconds to wipe down a carton full.

Used box today side by side cci and winchester. No problems extracting after shot and very good grouping, far better than winchester and very slightly better than cci. They are now my first choice with cci back up. Anyone want to swap two new boxes of winchester subs for eley or cci subs?.

Might just pay to be careful, Paul, if you get distracted while packing up and particularly in the dark. They were the most accurate for me but I got fed up cleaning off the muck and when they started to fail to extract that was it. Tried the SK and they were even better accuracy wise so won't be going back to Eley.

. As far as rounds go anything I can't use straight out box and have to clean/ wipe down before use can stay in the shops!.

Yep. I've probably been a tad unfair to SK, speaking from my own point of view. Older members will understand when this 70 year old says he's now suffering from 'dropsy' - things tend to end up on the floor quite frequently. The SK are oily but there's no real need to wipe them off unless you're like me and they tend to slip through your fingers like quick-silver. Damnit! :sad1:

Bless you, I hope I'm still shooting at your age. Why don't you get a few more magazines and bribe a younger family member to load them for you :good:
