Posted September 2, 2014 Report Share Posted September 2, 2014 Hi gents, just day dreaming really but I had an idea about sticking a v8 in the back of the van, do any of you guys know if it's been done? and how difficult it could be? I can imagine it now, me in my dodgy old caddy van, burbling away at the lights, rocking slightly, waiting for the lights to change, when up crawls some chav in his skirted out astra or something similar. . . doubt i'll do anything about it this year, but it would be an interesting way to spend a few weeks tinkering. your thoughts and opinions, as well as your help and advice, as always, are most welcome Paddy Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Gordon R Posted September 2, 2014 Report Share Posted September 2, 2014 Done a few kit cars - changing engines - each one bigger and faster. Put a diesel engine in a petrol Motocross van years ago. It started out easy enough, but by the time I had changed the gearbox, clutch, propshaft, starter, fabricated a prop shaft centre bearing mount, changed the wiring, exhaust, fuel tank, fuel lines, brake servo etc - it seemed a whole lot harder. There is nothing hard, but the engine is relatively easy to install. It's the knock on effects. Then you need to consider the brakes and suspension. daystate 177 Posted September 2, 2014 Report Share Posted September 2, 2014 at a hotrod show we attend each year a bloke has a jag v12 in the back of his Bedford cf van also has wheelie bars as it goes like stink so anything can be done, a vr6 would be less hassle mind then chip it and map it Jesus it will go. Pistonheads had a feature on a Suzuki Cappuccino which had its 650cc turbo engine (was it 55 bhp?) replaced with a Hyabusa engine and a turbo producing over 300 bhp. Now that would have been fun! Yes the gmc, my mum had a 6.2n/a in a range rover and it was fine, never had and transmission problems and we towed 3.5t trailer plenty with it too. I was part of one of the teams building those at Ford, we built a few . Mainly 351's , also built a few Cosworth Escorts with the 24 valve V6 from the Scorpio, but in rear wheel drive only. Posted September 8, 2014 Author Report Share Posted September 8, 2014 (edited) thanks chaps, I think I might need to do this a bit sooner than expected after all, poor old girl doesn't sound healthy at all, off to the local garage with her this week to see what the spanner monkey prescribes. why can't I just win the bloody lottery and buy a new one? I stripped off the throttle body and air intake manifold, No4 pot is a bit oily, still revving the cojones when it starts too.
