Decided to take a young shot out on the rabbits yesterday with the air rifles, for days Ive been watching a particular warren alive with half grown rabbits, dozens of them out all afternoon in the sunshine in a stubble field, so off we trot late morning , arrive in the field no rabbits in sight, the farmer has just top dressed the whole area with lime, at this point I should have gone straight home and got the shotguns but I didn't.

In the vain hope of a few shots we set up two hides and waited, much time passed , meanwhile over our heads flew virtually hundreds of pigeons and crows, some so close I was tempted to take a pop with the air rifle, A few settled in the stubble field about 100 yards away, I stalked up to some cover about 20 yards out and managed to bullseye one bird,

We picked up all the gear and moved across the field to a corner where a lot of birds were using a small oak tree as a stop off point, we set up a good hide and waited, the tree was 30 to 35 yards out, several birds landed but through the dense foliage it was difficult to get a clear shot,

After a short time we were aware of a lot of noise in an adjoining field, I got up and moved to investigate, two blokes with powered parachutes were setting up 100 yards away from our spot, Engines revving up, huge great parachutes lifting into the wind, and every bird for a mile around was headed in the opposite direction, never to return,

We watched as the big fan driven chutes moved off across the field, one got airborne the other , moving at a fast running speed suddenly nose dived into the dirt, the fan blade got caught in the guard frame and exploded in a shower of splinters, we spent the next half hour helping the poor man get his gear back to the car, he was ok, just his pride a little dented,

After that it seemed pointless to carry on so we loaded up and headed home, total bag, one pigeon. Frustrated, fed up, tired and cursing the fact we didn't bring the shotguns instead. At least we would have had a reasonable bag before the bird men of Norfolk turned up.

Ah well, next time it will be different. :yahoo::yahoo:
