Bramble Harvest

This year the bramble or blackberry bushes seemed to fruit a month early. Tied up with other dealings for the past two weeks I though well its all over- missed it. Not so today my partner and I went to a productive site and had almost 3 kilos in an hours picking. A lot were overripe and falling from the branches and had I not forgotten the crooked stick we could have had that amount in 100 yards.

What are you gonna do with them?

Heh, this is from several weeks ago - I ate them raw. The wild ones are a bit seedy, but still quite sweet. In previous years we made jam from them. We got a lovely little device in France several years ago which filters out the seeds which makes it much more palatable. 3 kilos of blackberries with some apples for the pectin (also wild - picked free) makes a fair bit of jam. We didn't make any this year as we still have loads left from last year - there is only so much jam you can eat!
