Thnx all

Just rang up gunshop to get quote on springers, HW80 eur 560 aa TC 200 similar

They have PCP in stock and I'm half tempted, they have a AA S510 Beech Stock, think it's the one with the longer barrel (not the carbine)

Whats people's view on this PCP....he has it in stock and thinking of buying it just want to make sure it's a real good one

So feedback be much appreciated

£400 can get you a fantastic scope/rifle combi. I'd look for a well looked after secondhand HW95 or HW80 (or in fact, any Weihrauch springer). They are powerful, reliable and shoot very very consistently. They tend to be quite pricey new, but secondhand you can probably pick one up for about £200. You could then use the spare £200 to buy a new high end scope...

Are we talking over 12 ft lb ? PCP is better once you get to the late teens of FT/LB energy, that said add in charging gear, scope, mounts etc and you budget just goes bye, byes. I have had a stack of PCP airguns and yes they are easier to shoot but at 30-35 yards it makes no matter to my ability to get good one shot kills and adds a lot of filling hassle and time fixing stupid little faults

OK hot off the press

From reading the mails I decided against PCP....one shot will do me fine.....gun dealer has said he has a HW97 in stock for eur 554 (OK budget gone but what the hell....I do want quality so will pay a bit extra) so

Sorry more questions

1. What's your opinion on HW 97 (read some good reviews)

2. Assuming above is good, what scope should I get ....OK will spend up to another say EUR200 on mounts and scope...gundealer said He can fit a hawke scope (sorry don't know model) with mill dots for eur 110

I'm fine with EUR554 +110 for HE97 and scope...questions is it up to scratch?

thnx a again for all the info

I'm a fan of the HW97. However, I have heard that the new models aren't quite so good as the old ones. Apparently, the quality control has dipped a bit in the last couple of years. (That could be the sort of 'apparently' with which every fact passed around in the pub begins with: it could well be total rubbish!).

The only way to be sure is have a good feel for it and see what it's like for you. It will take a bit of bedding in, but out of all the springers from all the makes in all the world, the 97 would be the one I'd get

In regard a scope you don't need top spend alot of money. Range isn't going to be beyond 35 yards. I would suggest a dedicated air rifle scope with parallax adjustment or set to air rifle ranges. JS Ramsbottoms does a fair range and would be my suggestion on a budget. Also recommend one piece mounts.

I've a HW97k and it's a lovely gun. I have read of springs crudely cut but Hull Cartridge rather than Weihrauch were the suspected culprits. Tuning is easy and drop in kits readily available if you like to tinker.

You need to try a few for fit.

I tried both the 97k and the tx200, ended up with a 97k as just felt better.

Peeps say you need to get a new 97k tuned but 3 tins of pellets is much more fun and a durn sight cheaper.

The guns a lot more accurate than I'll ever be.

You don't need a mega wizbang scope, I've just taken an Airmax off mine and put a NS 4x40 back on.

If you only doing FT/HFT type shooting fine get a scope you can adjust here there and everywhere cus you'll have time, in the field you need simple point and shoot.

Like I said, get to a shop ot club where you can try various guns for fit.

One last point, if you get a springer and put a scope on it get a good set of mounts with an arrestor pin, better safe than sorry.

Hope this helps..

Well after all the great advice and watching lots of reviews last night I rang the dealer this morn and cancelled the weihrauch. Upgraded the order to a AA prosport with walnut stock. I know bit of an upgrade but going to be looking at it for years and that walnut stock looks fantastic. Getting Nikko sterling 3 to 12 x 50 scope.

Should be nothing short of stunning in Walnut-you have chosen wisely and will be amazed at how smooth these guns are, people describe them as being tuned as standard and when you get her you will see why. . Enjoy it-safe in the knowledge that you are unlikely to ever come across a better spring powered gun-get some pics up asap :good:
