Vauxhall are offering £99 insurance for young drivers on their corsa, but you have to agree to have black box fitted. If your not intrested in new then look fir an insurance company that do the black box.I feel for you son, it was only today on anotber thread thst I mentioned the cost of insurance for youngsters. And the answer I got was 'well would you insure a 17yr old',we where all young once.

It is going to be expensive whatever you get. I paid £1200 three years ago to insure my series 3. I now pay £500 at age 20 with 2 years no claims on my defender.

On a sort of related note, due to my age I have to be a named driver on the work policy. Only cost £250 extra and I can drive all sorts. Sort of sums up insurance really

why not phone up a couple of brokers and ask them what car attracts the cheapest insurance premium for your circumstances - dont tell any porkies though - all insrance companies share databases and if you tell even the smallest of porkies they will use it to refuse to pay any claim - insurance is based on "truthfulness"

Yes, but we did not live in such a Civil Lit. society.

Hello chap,

I found this company to be about the cheapest and most helpful when I insured my daughters puegot 107 Www.ingenie.com they fit a black box in the dash board.

Thin edge of the wedge, start by reducing premiums for those that have this intrusive device fitted and in no time at all we will all be faced with draconian prices unless we accept these and the nefarious advance of accountability and surveillance that goes with them...I weep for this country !!

Moving off topic a bit but manufacturers are fitting kit similar to mobile phone to engine management system to notify both the factory and recovery/assistance companies of faults/location before breakdown occurs. You could have that nice man from AA sitting at the next layby as you crawl to a holt. Big brother is watching you!!

As I've said several time in recent years on this topic insurers do not want young (lads) drivers and trust me the numbers are not good. In a perfect world there would be far more restriction, night curfew, speed limiters or 1ltr cars, no passengers at all. Or no licence until 24/5. So if you do get cover behave yourself, but a low cost/ power car and eventually the premiums will come down. Don't try to deceive insurer either - they use professional engineers and have excellent databases so be truthful.

One thread on here concerned a modified car - lowered suspension detected when car crashed (I almost said told you so) and of course claim repudiated. Do nt do it!
