Springer for sire

Hello,

A strange one this.

I have an Esp,l/w,fantastic nature, superb nature, great family tree. Sire Halaze Hickory of Edgegrove.

His only problem is he's a bit timid of other dogs. Not at all when working though! I can't see him ever getting around to some hanky panky, so I thought I'd match make online. My ulterior motive is I desperately want one of his pups, that's all. No money involved.

I'm making him a rent boy!

I'm in Swansea, anyone with a nice esp, l/w interested.

Thanks,

Anthony

Are you going to buy a pup back from the breeder ? Otherwise there is money involved, you are charging the cost of a pup for his services.

^^ This

But a word of advice, a lot of people are just as if not more interested in the Dam's lines, Sire of your dog is an OFTW, naming the Dam would probably help you get more interest as people could then see his full pedigree :good:

Yes I know about the Dam. Problem is I've mislaid the family tree at present. If I can' find it I'll get a replacement from the kennel club ( he is registered).

Back to the Dam, she was also very well bred. Both Sire and dam almost all FTCH, FTW or OFTW. I'll post the family tree of both when I can find it.

As for money. I would not charge his services. I would just like to see the pups and know that he's fathered some pups. However I would like one pup, I would like free or at a discount rate. Only one for me to keep! Not from every litter! Just to show this is not a ploy to sell pups for free.

Some stud dog owners do charge pick of the litter. Meaning they get first choice of one of the pups. Stud fees can vary depending on the provenance of the dog. If it is a good breedline and proven sire they can be very dear.

In the show world Crufts supreme champion means the fee is very high. You see a lot of basic stud fees at around the £200-£400 mark, but is can go into the thousands.

Some kennel club registrations have a "no breeding restriction" on them, so its best to check the paperwork to see if the breeder has put that restriction on. If it is on and you cannot persuade the breeder to rescind it, it will means pups cannot be registered with the KC. It is safer to check what hereditary problems a particular breed can have and see if your dog/bitch needs to be checked for them before using for breeding.

The check can be expensive and for a one off use makes it rather dear.

You also need to check the dog and bitches pedigree against each other to make sure they are not too closely related as this can accentuate both good and bad traits and weaknesses.

The other potential problem with using a dog for a one off stud is the dog starts looking for bitches once he has sampled the delights. It doesn't always happen, but can be a real pain as before he had a vague idea what his tackle was for. Once he knows he can start zapping off on a bitch hunt if they get a wiff of one.

The alternative is to ignore all this and chuck em in together and hope for the best keeping your fingers crossed. :whistling:

Ah ha! His name is Wild Rye, Dam is Fenmarsh Silverbirch - is he 6?

Sire is of course very well known, Dam's breeding is ok - however it should be borne in mind that a lot of the 'red' will disappear off the end of any pups' pedigrees that he has sired.

Not saying I'm influenced hugely by a wealth of FTCHs in a pedigree btw.

If they use your dog for stud mate you either want a pup (for the line free) as thats how it works or you charge them mate gor the stud.people would take advantage of you offering money to pic a pup off your dog if you stud him so tell them to go and swing.its either a pup or charge them mate.atb Edited by lurchers

You first have to find someone who wants to use your dog at stud and , as has been said before WHY would they want to use him when there are innumerable dogs out there with credentials and awards, made in the field , that would qualify them more as a stud.

If I was breeding a litter I would want a stud that would attract prospective buyers of the pups and your dog may not meet that criteria.

I have been I a similar situation to yourself wanting a pup from my bitch, as she was a great worker, and that's easier to achieve than having a dog. I sympathasise with you wanting his progeny but that's much more difficult with a dog than a bitch

Yes I know that. I just wanted one of his pups. I said it was a strange post, stupid really. My point was someone wouldnt have to pay a stud fee, I know you are correct in what you are saying though.

Anyway there are a few people locally who know the dog and have said they want to use him. So I just have to wait.

I've wanted another pup for ages but 'she who must be obeyed decreed NO!', but on friday night she said yes. Hence the post.

I've done a little research and Edgegrove have one of his brothers as a stud dog, they will let me know of any of his litters coming up. It won't quite be the same though.
