Friday saw us heading out looking at all our stubbles , after fifty miles we had not found sufficeint numbers to warrant setting up . So we stopped to evaluate the situation, we could keep driving in the hope of finding some birds or we could look at a known flightline that usually starts in the late afternoon. We drove to a farm close to the city boundry which has a good afternoon flight. Driving across the stubble to a second field we came across a hide under a tree and about a hundred empties . we collected the carts and dismantled the hide , we then drove back to the farm , as we did we noticed that the normal flightline was further over and was heading to a wheat stubble field on the ajoining farm. We believe that the shooting yesterday must have pushed the birds over to the other stubble. The actual stubble field is on a farm we used to shoot but another shooter took the Farmers son out shooting one day and now he keeps all the shooting for his son. So we had to try and decoy them onto a grass field next to it, we set up twelve thawed birds on the grass on cradles so they stood out from the grass . It was amazing how they would keep to the boundry and not pass our field ,some did and paid the price. We stopped shooting at 17.00 and picked up ninetyone pigeon and ten crows.

Saturday saw us heading out to the seed fields after an early morning talk with Bunny Blaster before I went to feed the wifes horse as he had seen some on the seed in the week. We had been watching a bean stubble field for three weeks but the Keeper would not let us shoot, as we drove past this morning it was covered with pigeons and crows. Walking the field it was covered with last years beans and due to the dry weather the soil was very dry and the wheat seed was all over the surface . We drove down to the farm to have a chat with the Farmer, he called the Keeper and when he drove into the yard he was not a happy bunny as he knew what we wanted. After 45 minutes of negoitiation it was pointed out to him that they were not shooting the game for two weeks and had finished the duck shooting so it was an ideal time to cull the crows and the pigeons and if we had one day at it it would not cause much problems . He was out numberd and agreed to one day. So we drove back to the field to view it and decide what was the best form of attack. We decide to set up on a dividing hedge between the fields so we could shoot both sides and also the pigeon were flighting along the hedge, we set up with twelve pigeon from the day before on the left field and two crows on the right field . I was on the right of the hide but could shoot both fields as could DB. We had all our decoys on spikes , no magnet or angels . We picked up when we had approx ten down and and only had twenty decoys both sides. We were under pressure to produce a good result or we would be blamed for the poor game results. We stopped shooting at 17.00 as the ducks were trying to come in to the flight pond. We started to pick up and the under Keeper drove round to see how we had got on . We laid the birds out for the picture and he was gob smacked with the result. We picked up one hundred and eightytwo pigeons and one hundrd and thirtyfour crows and jackdaws. The dog was on his last legs as we packed up and had difficulty climbing back into the Disco to go home.
