Great for making your gun barrel heavy...... Unless you lost the original ones you'll improve your score more with an extra round or 2 or a lesson than by buying a longer choke......

I still own more chokes than ill ever need and they are extended...... Secondhand brierley or teagues are £20-25 each and readily available....

Extended chokes give better patterns in the tighter sizes, there will be little difference between a 1/4 flush and a 1/4 extended, but a short Full will deform more pellets to become ineffective side flyers than a longer tube. If you are buying extended, 3/4 and full will give improved patterns - 1/2 maybe a slight improvement, 1/4 and cy. no difference.

So, bottom line, is use the money for a decent lesson and hit more as a result. When you are good enough that getting 2 extra per 100 makes you a champion, then its time for a full set of extended.

A good lesson can see scores improve 20% immediately, a tinkering with chokes might put 2% on your scores if you are lucky.

For world champions, that 2% is crucial, to mere mortals, its irrelevant.

Where can you get second hand chokes? I rarely see ads on here for them. Any other websites you can advise?

Regularly ads here and other forums, sometimes on gun star and guntrader and the magazine classifieds a swell as gun shops and clay ground notice boards

only benefit is that they are easier to tighten/change between stands. George digweed doesn't use them.. that's good enough for me!!

That is probably due to the fact that his gun has fixed chokes, less to fiddle with. You will also note that his gun does NOT have an adjustable comb.

I think mr GD has more than one gun and can afford any gun he wants but perazzi give him a free one made to exact measurements anyone who has a custom made stock shouldn't have an adjustable comb!

I think he has multiple barrel sets for his guns thats much better than just changing chokes.......

The Muller extended chokes I shoot with are lighter than the Briley chokes supplied with the gun. They are fairly long though, adding around 2 inches to the 32-inch barrels.

I use the U2 constrictions in both barrels (which are around 3/8th in normal money) along with Churchill Hellfires in 7.5 which pattern fairly tightly to and I get good breaks on the long stuff.
