410 brass case reloading.

Recommended Posts

Hello PH.308

The .410 brass cases are not as popular as one would expect as they use metalic cartridge primers and the Violent Crime Reduction law makes it so you can only buy the primers from an RFD if you have an FAC with a firearm that uses that size primer (as I understand it). A lot of shotgun owners do not have an FAC so they are unable to get the primers.

Then there are issues closing the case, You can try a overshot card and supper glue or mastic, because if you "roll" the case mouth they quickly work harden and break.

Enjoy playing with them.

I had been told this too as I have reloaded 12 bore shells for over 30 years and had considered reloading smaller gauge due to the savings but a friend who reloads 12 and 20,s said due to the higher pressures he had never considered .410 as being safe yet he also reloads centrefire rounds , its correct about the primers if using brass shells you need rifle/pistol primers and fac. to purchase them .
