bisondan
Evening fellow pigeon watchers. I'm in need of a bit of advice please about Freelander 2s. Looking to purchase one 2nd hand and found a couple which are on sale local to me, just need to know what I should be looking out for when looking over the car and when test driving? I will be looking for veichles with less than 20k on the clock, would it be best to get one of the RAC or AA checks done on it? Sorry for the questions but this is going to be a major purchase for me and don't want to get bitten. Thanks Dan
B725
I have had mine four years now and repairs so far have cost £29 it is the best of five LRs that I have had,the Landy bashers will soon tell you not to bother but any make of car can have faults,If you are unsure have it inspected for peace of mind. Have a look at www.freel2.com Edited October 3, 2014 by B725
stuart21
My mate bought an 09 plate a couple of years ago and apart from a squirrel chewing though some hose, he's had no problems whatsoever. Maybe buy through landrover or get a landrover warranty check and or warranty.
shaun4860
Friend of mine has one, Loves it, 07 plate Only issue was the boot release, As said try and get a decent warranty, not because its a LR but any second hand car can have issues, I only had my current car 4 weeks when a sensor (Stability control) went, Would have cost £1200
V8 90
I would give careful consideration to a new one. Land Rover have some good deals on the FL2 as its been discontinued. You get a 3 year warranty that's second to none
superspark
I had one 2008 model, must of been a friday car, biggest pile of **** ive ever had the unfortunate pleasure to own. Never again
Mr Potter
I've got an 09 plate and, as above, its been the best most reliable LR I've ever owned. I got it just over 18 months ago and have done nearly 30k trouble free miles in that time. I bought it from a Land Rover main agent and got a very comprehensive warranty (which I paid to extend for a further year). The price difference between the main agent and specialist (non-franchise) dealers for similar age and mileage was negligible so main dealer was a no brainer for me. The Freelander2 is now officially a run out model to be replaced with the Discovery Sport in January 2015 and as V8 90 said I would consider buying a new one, I'd be surprised if a deal couldn't be had. Richie092
Another vote for new. We wanted to get a nearly new and it worked out cheaper (finance) to go new. Fantastic car and well worth the money.
Tonyc
On my second from new, 80,000 miles on first and 72,000 on second, I keep them for 4 years. No real problems, nothing expensive apart from a hand brake adjuster clogged up. Other issues taken care of by warranty. Only tragedy is that the replacement Discovery Sport will be too expensive for me next yearwhen I replace this FL2.
Richie092
It may well be but you will probably get a steal of a price on another FL2 if you wanted one!
Chris Bb
As most of above, I've had mine for a few months now (still under warranty) but no problems to date. A capable comfortable car with all the off road ability I'll ever need. Only downside is, it won't take a 32" 12 gauge in the boot unfolded! As the Discovery Sport is going to be so expensive it may well be that he last of the Freelander 2's will be snapped up. I'm in Hampshire if you want a look. 12 plate SD4 GS auto. neil3728
Both me and my boss, one at the same time a few years ago. He has had no trouble with his at all. Mine on the other hand, has had the gearbox dropped to replace a seal and a new power steering rack, lucky it was all covered under warrenty. bisondan
I've ended up with this Freelander 2 HSE 11 plate, 10000 miles with full Land Rover service history. It was originally a demo car for Hunters in Southampton who put everything they could on it; side-steps, all the bottom trim is factory colour coded etc. It did 5000 miles in its first year, then a worker at Hunters parents (an old couple) bought it, had it for 2 years and did barely any miles, retired and part exchanged it for a sports car, and now it's mine. steve_b_wales
Put a set of General Grabber A/T's on it, and it's a brilliant vehicle off road. I have 17" alloys on mine.
NickP
Looks a nice example, I've just bought my third FL2, this time a HSE Lux It's running on General Grabber GT's not as off road biased as the AT mentioned above but highly rated, though I don't off road Freelander 2 HSE LUX by npinks, on Flickr
bisondan
Put a set of General Grabber A/T's on it, and it's a brilliant vehicle off road. I have 17" alloys on mine. It's got Pirelli Scorpions on it at the moment which are fairly new but when they get worn I will be putting some General Grabbers on. I've been impressed with it so far. I picked my sister up from terminal 5 last weekend and got 42mpg, with the back seats down it easily had enough room for my carp fishing tackle for three days of fishing, and its quicker than I thought it would be. norfolk dumpling
We're looking at Freelandes now but wife likes look of Evoque (girly version of Freelander to my thinking) but I heard early ones very dodgy - sorry was popularity meant they were rushed out to meet demand but now good cars. Which do we go with?

bisondan
Did my longest journey so far in mine on Saturday, went to Wells in Somerset and back which was about 170 miles all-in. Went through some really bad weather in the way down and felt safe as houses in it, really enjoying it so far.
