First Day

Recommended Posts

We are starting 2 weeks earlier than normal this year which was planned as the numbers at the end if January are rubbish compared with the beginning. All well apart from I would say 50% of the birds look great and 50% look about 2 weeks behind, all got at the same time, should not matter if guns are selective, as all should be ready in 2 weeks for next day

We had our first day Saturday, some birds flew well, some didn't want to get out of the cover. 39 from 189 shots. Tried a few new things, some worked some didn't. Still went round last night and absolutely loads of birds in areas they aren't normally, roll on a week Saturday! Good luck to all for the season.

First day of our syndicate is 4th Nov, but we may be starting on our rough shoot sooner than this. For the past couple of months at least we thought we had lost all our birds as we weren't seeing any anywhere, but we are seeing quite a few now, and when the weather tightens up a bit we'll see even more. Surrounded by shoots on three sides so hopefully we'll bag a few.

Our first day last Saturday - 80 head including quite a few duck and a lot more seen but not over guns. We don't put down any duck so quite a bonus. Also on one drive more than three times the partridges we put down on that drive got up over the guns and the big commercial shoot next door has only put down pheasant so where did they come from?? We put down the usual number and on a first day take it easy, lots of chat (many of the guns only meet during season), the outside drives are done so we only expect 50-60 so a bit of a pleasant surprise. Funny old game eh?
