Should we all phone the police, I know we should phone but if we phoned at the same time the switchboard be whould jamed up and real emergency Will take a lot longer to be answered, we all don't want ARV turning up for law abiding owners.

A incentdent took place on one of my farms and the police went there mile at the farmer, shooting years there and now all of a sudden the police come out in force, someone who walks there dog near bye has taken upon thereselfs to phone and put up a notice on the gate.Should live and let live.

I would say that nothing ruins a day or nights shooting like having the police come and interrupt you, it would largely disturb anything you were after.if you are in an area where it is likely that someone will call the police and make problems for you then it would surely pay in the long run to just give them a quick call so they do not waste theirs or your time.

I have heard that sometimes the police still come out, if a member of the public phones they are duty bound and have to attend, so are you any better off,it was the attitude of the police to the landowner that worried me

glad to see you are giving consideration to the land owner and how he may feel fed up at keep getting disturbed by police checking that you have the right to be there.it was a small part of the reason there is nobody shooting over my land now.

also if you try hiding from the police and has been said the copter came out to search the farmer might not see the funny side if he has livestock in the area being terrified.could be your last visit.a clever move that

There is always going to be some clown banging on about "I know my rights". No problem, carry on, just do not complain if the Police do turn and it all gets nasty. For the sake of a couple of phone calls (start/finish) to the local control room, I can shoot in peace, and no, I am not in the middle of nowhere, but right on the urban fringe. I have been phoning the local control room each time I go out for some 10 years now and NEVER even seen as much as a police patrol. It works for me.

I tried it once out of respect for my FEO. I have no idea who I spoke to but they wanted to know when I would be going out and returning, where I was going, and with whom, what 'weapons' I'd be using and what I would be shooting. I had a rough idea when I would be going out, but no idea when I would be returning, wasn't sure exactly where we would be going as it depended on results, knew who I was going with, but then she asked what his name was and if he was a licence holder what 'weapons' he would be using and by now I was losing interest. Told her what firearms I would be using, but had no idea what he would be using, and that we would be shooting foxes. It took a while. I haven't phoned them since but have always informed the landowner.

Contentious question. Some do and some don't. Some would be happy to do it and some wouldn't. Some are openly hostile to it. This forum is full of this, to the extent that some threads get quite heated by the righteous indignant contingent. Some are even rather hostile towards the police for some obscure reason.

Personally I call it in if I'm shooting in North Yorks as they understand what I'm doing and are pragmatic about the activity. West Yorks can be hit and miss with some officers being quite offensive if seen and call bureau operators not really understanding and asking irrelevant questions.. So in West Yorks I only call it in if I'm expecting someone to complain.

My personal opinion, even though it's not a requirement, is that it's common courtesy to let the police know that I'm loose on their patch with a gun. It also works to mutual benefit in North Yorks as a call to me asking if I'm in a particular area avoids armed response or even a helicopter visit at minimum £800 just to take off. Also on occasion I've been informed of poaching in the area and what to look out for.

So horses for courses really.

This happened to me and they asked my age ! When they get the systems sorted properly and respond with alittle consideration instead of expectation then I'll help as I once did. I dont think its asking much for evquivalent consideration to the person reporting you after all we have to be legal and above board. I can recall where 'peace at any price' leads. My shooting rights are bought and paid for their response is my problem.

when I did quite a bit of lamping, always called them, once it is all in the system takes about 30 seconds, what area all other details stop the same so just confirming them. saves them getting dragged out to a lamp shining on a remote farm ( very flat here) to see if its thieves (we get a good bit of that too)

just in case there is any confusion the ultimate responsibility lies with the landowner.you may have paid for your sporting rights but it still rests with them.a farmer I know rented some buildings a few years ago on a piece of land he owned some twenty miles from his place the police raided it and found a cannabis factory.it cost him some 30k in legal fees.to clear his name.in times of trouble the first people we call to help are the police and we expect them to respond in a civil and considerate manner.well perhaps we should all give the same when they are just doing their job.

I call te non emergency line when going lamping on my in car blue tooth, no skin off my nose and quite like a chat. Just usually give them my whereabouts and mobile number and they always thank me an log me and say they'll call me first if any complaints. I don't worry about it day time

I used to do the same, id call 101, but they used to asked question like what I do for a living?, but still straight forward.

I don't bother now, because I was told if they had a 999 call about a firearm, they still have to response with the AR unit, so to me kind of defeated the object really
