pegasus bridge
What is everyone's thoughts on this? My initial thought is that it might make winter rape shooting a bit easier in areas that used to have 50% rape - because the birds would have less to go at? http://www.nfuonline.com/news/latest-news/three-crop-rule-utter-madness/
Bobba
As I understand it, rule changes are agreed by Committees in Brussels at which sit representatives of every member state who vote. The Uk rep would most likely have been a civil servant from defra, a generalist who probably knows little about agriculture. As the NFU think this rule is madness then as well as lobbying the Commision it should require defra to say whether or not they voted for this change and, if so, why? Catamong
I heard about this from a Farmer friend recently, he's not happy about it as he reckons he will need to grow more peas and beans to comply, I had to say it would be good news for us Pigeon shooters..! kyska
I heard about this from a Farmer friend recently, he's not happy about it as he reckons he will need to grow more peas and beans to comply, I had to say it would be good news for us Pigeon shooters..! Along with every other farmer, saturating the market lowering the value, it's a nightmare, could get as bad in some places where it's more cost effective to have fallow land. We did beans this year as it appeared most went for peas, we've done very well yield wise, but the pigeon shooting was not there, nothing! Catamong
Yes, peas can be a but hit and miss, sometimes they go on them, other years they're not bothered. I suppose the only positive as far as the Farmer is concerned is that they make a great break crop and you stand to get a better yield of cereals the year after..?
