I went out onto the estuary this morning and had a pleasant flight... saw a number of teal, lots of mallard a skein of Canadas came almost into range and I came away with a mallard.... but

what is wrong with the weather, took jacket and didn't put it on, ended up taking top off and shooting in a long sleeve shirt!!!! its almost November!!!!

Is it me or does it just feel wrong to be this far into the season and no trenchfoot or frostbite yet :-)

Average high 9.3

Average low 3

Not so much comparing to previous years, just stating that its too warm and calm for wildfowling.

Forecast a good wind overnight and in the morning so will be out at first light.

I'm in north wales and its the same here, I've only been out a few times for geese as its far to warm for the ducks, the forecast for next week is for a cold spell.

I don't mind the cold but if I can be comfortable and get under birds that's fine by me, we have the worst months to come so enjoy the weather while you can.

I have just read on a facebook page that the last time there were such high numbers of pinks over here was when we had the terrible winter of 2010. are the geese telling us something I wonder.

I am having no trouble at all getting under the pinks, they are just 3+ gunshots high!

Looking forward to a good wind or fog to bring them down abit!

I have spent the last 3weeks working on a site that is bang under a flightline, thousands of geese over throughout the day, all at good height.

Spent more time gazing into the sky than I have working!

Your very fortunate where you live.At least you get to see the pinks every day. A friend and I did 3500 miles travelling to Scotland last season. Dame goose fever(well pinks fever really)

Hi Terry I'm all for the weather to get colder if some good shooting comes with it. Talking about cold weather I was in yetholm in scotland and went to the petrol station shop were they had quads with tracks on for the snow for sale in the height of summer, I felt the need to head for home I was coming out in a cold sweat them fellow celts are hard men I tell you.

I am indeed lucky. But also unfortunate in the sense that I witness on several occasions each season what I would describe as slaughter, many guns in one hide blasting at pinks motionless above decoys(many goose guides around here) a sickening sight for any fowler.

I spend more time watching them than I do trying to shoot them.

Magnificent birds imo

Sorry for the rant.

All my fowling is on the foreshore fella, each to their own but I know where I belong, every goose is remembered and worked for. Off on my second trip month, blanked on my first. Already planning my third.

I cannot get enough of hearing them calling in the dark out on the estuary. I would move to Scotland tomorrow but my wifes really not up for it.. Probably knows she would see me less than she does now lol.

No good for me either, first visit in a couple of weeks, the flight line had switched 180° since the weekend. They all flew off with the wind up their tails directly away from me and climbing high for the wolds. Very very quiet, the only way I could see geese was through binoculars, most were two miles away.

That's funny, the ones in the wolds were flying away from the wolds.

Plenty of birds about, but with lots of food and water also around they have a lot of choices and aren't yet making major patterns of movement yet.

Well I saw lots more geese today

only problem was they were 1/2 mile away as the wind had blown them off the flight line from the last few days and they were earlier ...

not a problem as I always get out there early :-)

only one mallard came close and the damn cartridge misfired!!!! only ever had that a couple of time in my life ...shows how my luck is running at present :-(
