Could hotline be used by anti's?

Other than recording - I think the whole point of such a hotline is anonymity.

If that is the case then you may have answered your own question. I think the possibility that this is wide open to abuse is one (amongst others) of the reasons why our shooting organisations aren't too chuffed with ACPO, but as ACPO (as far as I'm aware) didn't even bother to consult our shooting organisations prior to their statements doesn't fill me with confidence that the fact they're not happy will have any effect.

The Mail- Didn't take many comments on this one. Why is that?

Did they see where ****ryfile slipped up with their poll that went against them.

Ooh hello. What happened there?

Think you may have misspelt Countryfile and you have been got by the spell checker.............Bit like Sconthorpe ii suppose. (If that is what you mean !)

Also Wymberley is spot on in post #8

Bit surprised that you aren't familiar with that one.

Ok, got you now, but............

This firearms Hotline has been talked about recently all over the media etc., but I have not seen any numbers mentioned, have I missed it, what is the number, and just where does a hotline score over 999 for alerting police of firearms incidents, especially as the number appears to be a secret!?

are we all just overacting. when we all get our licence are we not visited and vetted by the police and we are already on a home office register of sorts. If you start behaving irrationally or be seen to be involved in some thing out of the norm then that may be the time that something will be done about it. As long as we continue to be law abiding citizens then we IMO should not even give it the time of day.

Oh ! and by the way do you not think that PW and other shooting forums are not monitored by the home office & police ??

First of all, I believe too many people are over reacting to the 'unannounced visit' thing. The Police have ALWAYS had this power since the introduction of Police issued Certificates. I have had shotguns and rimfire rifles since the 10 bob Post Office gun licence. I have NEVER had an unannounced Police visit. Earlier this year I had occasion to drive from my home in South West Lancashire to the East Yorkshire coast some 200 miles. During this journey, mainly on 'A' roads, I never saw a single Police vehicle. The ranks of the Police have been reduced by such huge numbers, I believe that unannounced visits to Firearms and Shotgun Certificate holders, will probably be pretty low on the agenda of general policing.

A lot of this is political without a doubt. There is a GE next year so any little thing which might secure a vote will be used to appease the masses. As soon as GE is past it will all be forgotten about BUT we (&BASC etc) must not be complacent and we must try to fight every attempt to diminish our position. Death by a thousand cuts will finish shooting.............

TBH I can't see anyone but antis using it, perhaps a few curtain twitchers. As the parents of the British jihadis all say they had no idea their kids were being radicalised and planning to leave for Syria how is the local busy body or concerned citizen going to a cert holder is being radicalised or becoming unstable?

“It Don’t Impress Me Much”

The Bug Note

(An old anecdotal episode)

A man is riding on the old ‘Trans America Railroad’ when he spots a large Cockroach crawling in his Pullman bed. The man, totally irate, writes a letter complaining to the head of the railroad.

He, in due course receives a letter from the president of the railroad apologizing profusely and stating that this has never happened in the history of the railroad and that they could not understand how this could have possibly occurred, and that initiatives were being put in place to insure that this never happens again!

Unfortunately, still attached to the letter was an inter-office memo that the railroad's president had intended only to be seen by his secretary. It read, "Send this guy the ‘Usual Bug Note". :/
