reggiegun Posted October 22, 2014 Report Share Posted October 22, 2014 My battery light keeps staying on till I rev the engine a fair bit, only just started doing this. Battery's check out ok, have to rev the engine a fair bit to get the alternator to charge 13.5 volts, is the alternator on its way out. The lights does go out when engine revved. superspark Posted October 22, 2014 Report Share Posted October 22, 2014 The battery light will normally come on if the alternater is under charging. If battery is ok and belts tight and not slipping check your earth strap from battery to earthing point is free from corrosion and tight. Check connections on the alternater itself for loose or damaged connetions. if all above is ok then its time to get your alternater's output checked. It sounds like an alternater fault. If not look at getting it reconditioned rather than buy a new one A lot of Toyota stuff is covered by the 5year guarantee now. It might be worth checking your car paperwork from Toyota. May be worth getting the existing one repaired rather than replacing as could be a lot cheaper. The alternator on my old discovery lasted almost 20years... just saying.
