AVB
My cocker is 13 months old and his training is coming on well. However I am concerned that his fur his extremely fine. He also has little of it. On his belly and chest you can quite easily see his skin through his fur. He does suffer with nettle stings quite badly and I worry that this is because of his lack of/thin fur. Is this unusual or will it thicken with age? Cheers Andrew

stuey
Same with my cocker mate. First 2 seasons, she got stung and scratched, but last season and this season, skin seemed to toughen up. Still gets the odd scratch etc but no where near as bad as when she was younger - she is 5 now. Cheers Stu
loriusgarrulus
Maybe you could try him with a neoprene dog vest. Someone mentioned them on the Wildfowling section to keep spaniels warm while on the marshes. It might help protect the skin as well while the coat thickens up. figgy
Most Cockers are thin fur under the belly, mine is the same. Don't worry about they rarely sit still long enough to get cold. Figgy Edited November 8, 2014 by figgy

pegleg31
If you're not bothered about breeding from him get his nuts of that'll thicken his coat up if you're worried about it being thin.
blasterjudd
He looks pretty much the same as mine You may find he gets more hair as he ages so no worries with him at all. A lovely looking dog !
welsh1
My Brittany has fine hair on his belly and develops a small bare patch on it,but it is because he will crawl under the tightest gaps at the bottom of gates and fences when out shooting,so he wears a little bald patch about the size of a golf ball, doesn't bother him even when he gets cuts and scrapes on it.could be yours is squeezing into tight and low places while hunting and has worn a small bare patch.
